What's up at U of Montana? Last summer's hire did not make it through the year. Fall out over the Eastwood controversy?

May is no longer there? He is still on the website!?!?
I’d guess maybe a formality to make Lowry a paid coach If she was an unpaid assistant before?
do you need a college degree to coach in college?

There are very few coaches at the collegiate level who do not have a college degree (and those that do not are typically in the process of finishing an online degree).
Master's degrees are usually preferred and sometimes required; I would say over 50% of full time, benefitted coaches have advanced degrees.
I am not saying advanced degrees make better coaches, but universities tend to prefer employees with higher education.
Any particular reason colleges/universities are now "preferring" you to have a masters degree?

A master's degree is almost always listed as a preferred qualification; this is likely for a few reasons.
1) they know they can find a candidate with an advanced degree
2) for better or worse, many in hiring positions feel an employee should have an advanced degree in order to work with undergrads
3) universities like having employees who "buy in" to what they are "selling"
Most smaller schools require a masters degree because they require coaches to teach a class or two. Usually an activities or wellness class. That's the main reason just so you know, especially at smaller private universities.

Petros turned down contract extension and will be moving on in June
University of Georgia's Petros is leaving? Or is this early season "up my contract or else" negotiations?
No I heard he was offered an extension and raise already and turned it down. So it must be something more personal if rumor is really true.
May was a fast temp hire. Formality - he will be hired full time now. HR crap
Some colleges hire athletics coaches as staff and some as faculty. Tenure, retirement and pay scales are impacted by this. I believe staff designation means the football and basketball coaches can be paid far more than the highest paid faculty. Faculty and staff are typically represented by different (union) groups.
Faculty requires have a graduate degree. You have to have a terminal (typically a doctorate, sometimes a masters, like MFA) degree in your field in order to teach at a university. At the community college level, a masters is enough to be an instructor in any area.
This may be the reason for a desired masters degree for coaching.
As I'm not privy to the team anymore (everyone I know graduated). Is May really not at Montana anymore? I assumed that would be a long time hire. Who is coaching distance then? Some proof would be awesome...
So back to jobs...what are some recent rumors? Conference weekend!!
Anyone out there interested in a career change? Become an AD for one of the most respected track/XC programs out there
Anyone know where Brian Chenoweth went from Columbia?
Quit coaching. Good on him.
If Petros leaves Georgia is Babbit out? he seems to be running on fumes the last several years when it comes to being invested in the program.

Ever heard of Denzel Comenentia? How many points did he score at NCAA meets the last four years?
Babbitt will take over as HC.
He won’t pass up the opportunity for a 2nd time.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
