Where do you live?
In the US..
In the US DirecTV seems to be in the lead. They are in the middle of converting form MPEG2 to MPEG4 which will allow them to offer a lot of High Def Channels. Dish purchased Voom, but it will not give them enough HD.
But Dish seems to have more international content\stations.
Yes in the US.
Here is what I have found...
DirecTV 135 Channels $41.99/month. First 3 months at $29.99.
Dish Network 85 Channels + Local for $31.99/month.
I'm not going to do the HD right now, so I am leaning towards Dish since it's more affordable.
Had Dish, have DirectTV now. I went with Direct and got the Tivo for and additional $50 - Tivo rocks! Compare the channels on the two. For example, Direct has OLN on their base package, but Dish does not.

I have the lifetime subscription to TiVO, agree it rocks. So I don't need a DVR at all. I need to make a list of the obscure channels that I need to watch running and what not, then compare I guess.
