He's had a helluva summer considering the rocky past few years for him. I'm sure a lot of us remember the days when he tore it up in an international field in the mile at Pre Classic a half decade ago, the same year he whiped the field at NCAA cross I believe. It was clear then that Goucher was the one man that could achieve something around the level of BK.
Not to take away from Broe or these other young guys who may run faster in the coming years, but Goucher has now run 13:11 and 13:10. There is no one else still running in this country with those marks, though Broe is very close with his 13:12 and 13:13 both this summer. He deserves enormous respect too.
I just think it is so pimp the way that Goucher got pissed off, and set off to run fast. Stating he would run faster than all these other guys who were lighting it up a bit early, all the while the lines of trolls and dried blood dagger yielding back stabbers grew behind him. And then..........he did it!
I sincerely hope that he and Broe both run faster this summer and can get into 13:0-something, but at the very least Goucher showed that he has the guts and the determination that very, VERY few have.
Total respect for that.
