Hi all,
I'm new to running, so apologies if what I'm about to say is nonsense.
I'm looking for a bit of help on something I cannot get my head around. Yesterday, I went to the gym and decided to have a blast on the treadmill. I set out to rep out on a 0% incline on 6:39 per mile until failure.
1 and a half hours later, I had ran a half marathon on a treadmill before I was bored and stopped.
When I go on road, I can barely run a Park run / 5k in under 25 minutes without being totally zapped of energy at the start.
I'm not for one second saying a 0% incline is in anyway comparable to road running, but how can I run a half marathon in an hour and a half on a treadmill, yet struggle to cope at 8:30 a mile on road?
Is it then impact of the road zapping all of my energy by taking it out of my legs? I have flat feet, so I wear structured running shoes, albeit budget ones (Asics GT 1000). Should I look at alternative shoes? My legs pretty much go on road after a couple of miles, my muscles tighten - particularly calfs and hamstrings.
Any advice would be great :) I'm about to start marathon training, so I'd love to tackle this issue.
