"Only 20 Americans in history have broken 2:10 in the marathon and only four have ever broken 2:08; the MGC will feature 21 sub-2:10 guys, six of whom have broken 2:08."
I get Japanese channels on my cable so I'll be watching it live! Always great coverage.
Looking forward to the Suguru Osako vs Yuma Shitara duel. I am rooting for Osako to bounce back from his Tokyo DNF and win the MGC although Shitara sounds like an interesting guy as well. I read Bret Larner’s preview on Osako and he didn’t mention his CR win at Surf City Half this year. Is the Hot Trot Half a pretty major race?
LetsRun, you have it wrong about the JAAF streaming the races on YouTube. If you click on the YouTube video at the link you provided, it was a Live press conference from June.
Here are the TV streams for those of us outside Japan ...
Go to the link at the bottom of this post (which when I first tried to post was refused for being spam).
Then, for the Men's race click TBS below the video.
For the Women's race click NHK G below the video.

This dude looks like a chick.
That aside, why does Japan think that it has a shot at the Gold when GOAT Kipchoge is around?
Laughable.
Is Brett Larner a weeaboo?
Two things:
#1 Why stress so much that it would be such a disaster for NOP if Osako doesn't make this team? I don't see it that way at all. NOP has traditionally not been a team 100% focused on the marathon. Osako is good but he DNFd his last marathon & this field is really really good. It's more on point to say it's a disaster if he gets smashed in this race but if he finishes 4th are we sounding the alarm? Maybe he takes a crack at his own Japanese record to kick out the 3rd place finisher.
#2 You didn't give the women enough coverage in this preview. 6 points & all you could do is mention the standards, how many ran under, and the PRs of five women at the end. They were all side notes. You didn't cover any of them on their own.
Update for streaming outside Japan -
The NHK link for the women's race at TVJapanLive doesn't seem to work now. However, you can watch it at

#1. Completely agree. 4th overall in this caliber of a field would hardly be a 'disaster' for anyone not named Eliud.
#2. Got to admit, after reading the write up of the men's field I only gave the women a cursory glance. Not being familiar with most all these runners both male and female, I didn't want to bite off more than I could chew. Hoping for decent coverage tonight and for the commentators to provide lots of insight into both fields. 7 hours until Jikan o iku!
The TBS feed has no sound. Is this always the case?
Well said -- excited for tonight!
Osako is Japan's record holder and has been on the podium in every WMM he has raced in. It would absolutely be a disaster if he didn't make the team. If he doesn't win it no one would bat an eye, Shitara is good. No one else should be finishing ahead of Osako let alone two others in this field.
Anyone else not getting audio in any of the TBS streams?
Do you speak fluent Japanese? If not, then the audio is of no use.
However, the graphics they will show will give excellent splits. Of course, unless you can read Kanji, you’re out of luck. But you can know how fast the leaders are running.
What time will this be central time US?
Fair point...
but I just want to hear the excitement and energy :(

but what if I can?
The depth of this field is unreal. We are really behind in the US.
