Interview on Milesplit, she seems to say she (now) knows she was not yet ready for a real fast time....just a course record ho hum. Seems more focused on health and team goals than times. No timeline for college decision.

No, she ran 17:10. You probably mixed her up with her brother.
That MR/CR for Tuohy to open her season also happens to be the 2nd fastest 5k xc time ever recorded by a US HS girl.
Here is the short list:
16:06.9 Tuohy, 2018, Ocean State
16:22.8 Tuohy, 2019 Great American
16:23.4 Rainsberger, 2015
16:24.1 Trotter, 2001 FootLocker Champs

I think you missed 16:21 Tuohy, 2028 New Balance Shore Coaches Invitational
https://nj.milesplit.com/meets/324493/results/612930/formatted#.XZuuHEZKiUkI still can't figure out why the Great American course runs 30 seconds faster than even Goddard Park in RI. No uphill climbs until well after the mile mark, and then right at the finish I guess really helps the average runner? But I guess the course for Desert Twilight is even faster. At least that is what the numbers say.

Brynn Brown's 16:12 on Sept. 14th of this year:
https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=12163689Per updates provided above, fastest US HS girls 5k xc times are:
16:06.9 Tuohy, 2018, Ocean State, NJ
16:12.0 Brown, 2019 Guyer Milesplit, TX
16:21.0 Tuohy, 2018 Shore Coaches, NJ
16:22.8 Tuohy, 2019 Great American, NC
16:23.4 Rainsberger, 2015
16:24.1 Trotter, 2001 FootLocker Champs, FL
I am still partial to Claudia Lane's 16:30.3 at Woodward Park in CA/2017 State Champs & Melody Fairchild's 16:39.2 at Morley Field in CA/1990 Kinney Nationals as at least equal to the above as the best xc races a hs girl has ever run.
Trotter used to have the highest speed rating . . . still does?

Yep, she's still tops. Would be a great fantasy race to see Trotter and Tuohy go head-to-head at their peaks given their similar styles of going out hard and holding on.
Her times seem less impressive when you consider how fast people like Hassan run.
She looks like she never skips lats/shoulder day...
Don't forget Cathy Schiro running 16:45 at VCP back in the very early 80's
Chill out people. This is a talented girl running College workouts for the last 3 years. These courses that you're comparing are all known to be short and fast. She's a high school stud. Let's just appreciate it for what it is.

Her 180 SR is a complete farce. She and one other girl from CA both magically jumped something like 27-28 points in the space of two weeks between the state meet and FL. That’s not how fitness works. You don’t run 150ish and then pop a 180 all of a sudden last race of the season when all your previous efforts have been within a few points of each other.
how were the men's times on the course that day? did she see any competition all year? maybe she was just running to win all year. 150 will beat almost any female on any day. no reason to lay it on the line, week after week.
I like watching her run. She is not concerned about anything except meeting her own expectations. That's a great thing in an athlete.
I do wish she'd get her over striding issue under control in the first mile. Its what leads to knee stress and unnecessary effort. I don't why her coach doesn't work on it. Her technique looks efficient and strong, except for that early part of the race where her steps are slightly long. In the long run its not a good thing

Fast for a number of reasons-
1) straight downhill for 400+ meters at the start.
2) I believe it is 50-70m short of 5k. Nothing ridiculous but significant.
3). Great American was exceptionally fast this year because the weather finally broke the morning of the meet.

This is one of those issues that will never be resolved. It has been discussed on here before. The question is discussed on the tullyrunners site I think. My speculation is that most of the field could not handle the course conditions that day which was reportedly hot, humid and soft. But apparently Trotter could, very well. But does that mean she could have run a 180 speed rating time on a drier, hillier course such as Balboa, Bowdoin, or similar. I think not. But I could be wrong. 180 on those courses would be a time of something like 16:15 at Balboa, maybe a little slower than that at Bowdoin. In other words, the FL course in FLA that day ran at about the same speed as those 2 courses. At least for most of the field.
Tuohy would destroy Trotter as a Junior... 15:37 vs. Trotter is another level. Poor Trotter never panned out.
A 180 speed rating at Woodbridge this year was 14:28 3mile.....
Could you imagine Trotter or Tuohy running that fast?

Would also apparently be a 15:23 at Great American.... nearly a whole minute ahead of what Tuohy just ran this past weekend.
