*Official* G-MAC xc 2019 thread

Malone and Cedarville are headed to Queens for one more shot at each other before conference while Walsh goes to Lewis. Some better weather may yield different results. G-MAC will look far different than this past weekend both in terms of times and gaps between team scorers.

I thought Cedarville would have done better this year. Magda not running doesn’t help.

I see only Walsh making it to The big dance out of the conference. Both Cedarville and Malone had shots at earning some points and they failed. All Ohio wasn’t a good result for either school.

Rob Mizicko is in his 8th season . During his time he has turned Walsh around. Not only on the Men’s side but the women’s . Since going D2 in 2013 this has been the results

On the Women’s side

2013- N/A

2014- 20th in the region

2015- 16th in the region

2016- 7th in the region

2017- 12 in the Nation

2018- 12th in the nation

On the Men’s

2013- 15th in the region

2014 - 15th in the region

2015 - 23rd in the Nation

2016 - 7th in the region

2017- 22nd in the Nation

2018- 18th in the nation

Mizicko is one of the best coaches in D2 and certainly the best in the G-MAC. Both Walsh teams will likely win conference titles regularly and make consistent trips to Nationals as long as he is at the helm.

People are still sleeping on Hillsdale, as always. They may not have had the best recruiting class (as evidenced by the Lansing Invitational) but they raced the same course Walsh did at Notre Dame. Hillsdale had 4 guys run faster than Drew Roberts, with their fifth (Morrison) being just seconds behind. Malone has had a terrible season, despite how good their coach John Hackle is supposed to be, and would require a miracle to do anything at conference. If Walsh keeps racing as they have been, they will definitely be in contention for the conference title, but Hillsdale has a legitimate shot to win. Hillsdale might have a chance to go to nationals after many years of falling short at regionals. As far as individuals go, Kentucky Wesleyan's Kurz (25:59) will win. Humes will choke again, Roberts won't show up as he has no experience, and Webber will flounder as always at a GMAC championship.

On a different note, has anyone seen the G-MAC course at Ursuline this year? What dim-wit designed this course? How are people not going to get lapped? It would be less confusing if athletes just ran down the hallways of the school.

How dare you! Their coach goes by the name of Jack Hazen. Undisputed 2012 Olympic Distance Coach! Undisputed 2007, 2008, 2009 National Champions!

They ran fast on a short course this past weekend. They have a lot of talent on the team maybe THEIR COACH DAVE GRAMLICH can pull it all together.

Many years seems a bit excessive. They made it 3 years ago...

That being said, those two races weren't very comparable. Walsh ran at ND in September in heat and humidity (high of 86 on race day) while Hillsdale ran it in October on a perfect fall day (high of 57). I'd be surprised if they're close at GMACs, although Humes won't choke again.

I don’t think you’ll have to worry about the fast course. They went down in the regional rankings this week. Shows no one cares how fast they ran on a short course.

Why on earth didn’t Malone and Cedarville go to the Lewis Crossover? A lot of ranked teams went to that meet. They both missed out on possible points for an at large if they race well at regionals.

So does anyone actually understand how the course works? Seems like awful design that could hurt the front group as it laps people

I could name a lot of courses in N.E Ohio that would be better than this one.

For teams I'll take Walsh, Malone, Hillsdale, and Cedarville in that order for the top 4 teams. Let's be honest, nobody else really has a shot at the top 4, and 5th is a complete coin flip so I'm just gonna stop at 4.

For individuals I'll take Humes, Murray, Miller, Fresenko, and Caniford for the top 5, in that order.

Wow, this thread has stooped. However, Malone are the obvious men of the conference. Their domination of the conference last year is evidence of that. Everyone that day went home "namby pamby milksops," while Malone proved the might of what was between their legs. Their dominance over the GMAC will continue.

On a more serious note, Walsh has been doing track workouts the entire season. I read a Walsh runner's log that mentioned a "Michigan" workout nearly once a week. This kind of extreme stimulus on the track will most definitely result in slow cross times. When a team goes to the well like that every week, it becomes hard to show up at the end of the season. Sure, they can rip times on the track, but they have no aerobic base. Hence, they choke on the big stage every year. When it comes down to it, Walsh will underperform as usual.

How is it a "coin flip" when there are more than two possible outcomes for the fifth position of your given permutation? If you meant that it doesn't even matter, then I'd say the coin flipping starts at second for the team rankings. Tiffin has the most favorable outcome heading into this weekend; your top four didn't even include them. But what do I know?!

Speaking of my tune up workout, it went okay. Despite hail and thunderstorms I was able to crank out a 5xmile cut down starting at 4:05 on some dirt roads, followed by 6x200 on the track. This workout gave me all the more confidence heading into conference this weekend.

My plan is to sit on Humes for four and a half miles and then showcase my acceleration. They don't call me the fastest lurker in the GMAC for nothing!

The irony in your user name "Maloner" talking about a choke job. When's the last time you guys have made it to the National meet? 4/5 years ago?

I ran for McCallion when he was still the coach and let me tell you, the thought of us beating malone was a pipe dream. In fact I don't think Coach Hazen ever loss to us in the history of his program prior to Mizicko.

lmao, you're delusional. Walsh runs a bus line for their women every weekend down to Colonial Heights. Walsh is a sausage party every weekend. Not a woman in sight. I'm glad I got out of there while I could.
