Using Youngs 13:39 3 mile pr his 7x1k workout is being done at v02 max pace. 7x1k @ vo2 with 3-minute rest doesn't seem that crazy. Especially if your program doesn't race often
Never said it was crazy, but very challenging workout that is as tough as any college workout. Simply pointing out his workouts appear to be more challenging than the others mentioned, meaning he may be working harder to get similar results, meaning when the others step up their workload comparably, they may improve more. Not a dig on Young and not being critical, just feel the others may have more upside.
I see where you're coming from, but why wouldn't Young be more prepared for college style workouts. If he is running 65-70 miles It will be a smoother transition to most programs. Look at Ritz, Ryan Hall and Sarah Hall. They ran very high millage in HS (way above 70) and had great college careers. The idea that Sprout running 50 miles a week in Colorado Springs has more chance of improvement is just not true. No one really knows what Sprout, Culpepper or Young are really doing everyday. Only people making assumptions.
