I believe you. 28 bpm isn’t crazy at all for a non-elite yet healthy trained endurance athlete. I am a woman and my RHR was 38 bpm and I doubt I could have run under 22:00 for a 5km at that point but I was cycling for 2 hours a day (having said that, only at about 15mph). Basically, I was a far, far cry away from being in “fantastic shape”. RHR doesn’t matter though, it has a lot more to do with how much stress your central nervous system has to deal with during rest than actual fitness level.
