The networks can’t pay any more than their advertising brings in. Corporations won’t pay top dollar for TV spots if nobody is watching. Nobody watching means less money.
The issue is that it’s not as popular. Same with WNBA and women’s hockey.
Yes they work hard. So do garbage men and ditch diggers.
Except that more watch the USWNT than the USMNT based on television ratings. The networks are making a killing because they are paying less for broadcasting the USWNT despite getting more views (ad companies probably doing well additionally).
USSF does not own the TV rights to the Women's World Cup. So, even though more English language viewers watched the women's final in the US (a little more watched the men's final than women's final in the US if you add in Spanish language broadcast) it does not factor into the debate about if USSF is not equally paying the men and the women.

I don't disagree, I was just pointing out the idiocy of claiming no one watches the USWNT.
I also wonder if the men are paid more in order to field a competitive team.
There are more club teams and positions for male players, and I believe the best US men play for Premier and Bundesliga clubs.
With their club salaries being what they are, the best American male players have less financial incentive to play on the US National team. US Soccer may have to put larger offers on the table just to field the best possible team.
I would also argue that markets will correct. If the women draw large viewership ratings, US Soccer will start charging more for the broadcast rights. Salaries would likely rise with increased profits.
I also believe the US women's and men's teams have every right to arbitrate for the highest possible salaries they can get.
I'd be thrilled if we never heard of the women's soccer team again. Showboating bullies always trying to grab headlines for their personal agendas
Women: World Champs
Men: Not so much
PS. DO you really expect the 2nd place finisher to earn as much as 1st place?

And your favorite sports teams you enjoy watching are . . . ?
Your life will be a sad one.

He loves watching Gladiator movies. The kind where the men oil up and grab each other everywhere. The ones with happy ending are his preference,
The women actually get a much higher percentage of tournament profits than the men do. Much much more.
Get more fans and you'll make way more money. Not really an issue but it's easy for the media to sell "The big bad men are making more than the little girl. Not fair", and people actually believe it. Wow.
Interesting that the men put this out there supporting the women.
It must be a move to help their negotiations down the line and is not entirely true. In the second paragraph they say that "the Cordeiro letter includes the claim that the USWNT lost $27 million over the past 11 years, but admits that is based on false accounting because the Federation "traditionally" does not count sponsorship, television, or marketing money the Federation generates from USWNT and USMNT players and their games."
Cordeiro does not say that they don't count sponsorship, television, or marketing money he says that they don't attribute those revenues to either team but rather the whole federation.
The same thing happens in Fortnight. 46% of gamers are identified as female, but only 0% made the final 100 in the Championships. The onus is on the game publishers, event organizers, big-name sponsors and team owners to attract and employ more female gamers, And to pay well-known female players the same as their male counterparts.

PS: women’s players have a base salary of about $165k/year paid for by USA Soccer. The men: zero annual salary. 100% performance based. The women didn’t want that. Now they’re upset.

^^^^^^^This X1000
I expect professional athletes to be paid according to their marketability for a brand, product or professional club.
Thus, as much as I love track and field, I have to concede that many of the Baltimore Orioles are paid a greater amount than the highest paid American distance runners; and from a viewership standpoint they deserve the higher pay.
With that said, while I personally am not that interested in women's soccer and was very turned off by their early tournament antics, but I have no idea how their compensation and viewership compares to men's team.
The problem with U.S. Soccer for both men and women is that they cannot work together. It's very evident in the youth development system and extends all the way to the U.S. National Team system. U.S. Soccer should become one entity and create a structure in which both the men and women are treated equally. Equal base salary for all national team players, equal health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401 retirement plans. They would also need to shareTV and merchandising revenues of which would go back into the general U.S. Soccer fund. The difference in compensation would only come by the teams success on the field. The more a team wins the more they earn of which would be divided among the players and coaches. It pretty simple. Any extra money with regard to club team salaries and individual endorsements is entirely up to the individual player. If U.S. soccer wants to fund leagues and pay players that would be a separate issue and negotiated with the player(s). Outside of that the U.S. National teams should be equal all the way through.
It's not complicated. They both need to work together to grow the sport.

Sports are littered with contracts that don't make sense. Agents get trash heaps contracts that are so skewed no one could make sense of them. Brady is pretty much considered the best QB in the NFL but if I'm not mistaken, he's nowhere near the highest paid QB. Some of the NBA contracts I hear about amaze me.
If the USWNT want better pay, get better agents.
