2019 D3 Mideast Region xc

Why not 1st? You don't think they are good enough to get 1st? You don't have any faith in the team? Sad that you have no faith in your team to get 1st. Every team strives to get first but I guess Gettysburg is used to never getting 1st...They only shoot for 3rd place...You heard it here first. 3rd place at their conference meet...

Well, there were 2 and a half teams there. Are we really counting F&M as a whole team?

talk about real teams then. Any hot takes for the regional meet (that actually have a chance of happening)? Not sure I agree with what USTFCCCA Fake News said about moravian going balls to walls in August, they came out of nowhere at the Etown meet. At the same time, it says a lot about what national coaches think of the mideast region that Moravian is 5th in our region and not even ranked nationally... say they pop off at regionals and get 4th. Do they even have a chance at an at-large bid?

Nope. They wont make it getting 4th. Last year only 3 went. Last time the region sent 4 for men's was 2017. Popping off in September doesn't matter if it means falling off hard in October meets into November. 3 for sure but 4 won't happen. Averaging sub 26 as a team barely gets a team nationally ranked. Hence why I said its 3rd or nothing for anyone who's not Hopkins or Carnegie.

I do think tho if Carnegie has a bad day and Hopkins has a great day, their roles could reverse. Look at last year...Times showed that anything can happen and will happen. Carnegie beating Haverford last year was huge going into nattys. If Hopkins has that type of day, things could get wild.

Other regions (new england) are looking weaker than normal, and mideast, while not as strong as usual because of Haverford having a down year, still has some strong contenders. It's no guarantee, but I could see one of Dickinson/Moravian/Etown getting a bid in 4th place if they race very well at Paul Short and Rowan and get 4th at regionals. Seems most likely Dickinson manages that but they seem to have problems come regionals. The real season has only just started so there's plenty of time for things to develop.

I should mention that I do agree with you on that the mideast probably only gets 1 at-large bid, but am playing devil's advocate and do think that it is at least possible that 4 teams go.

Exactly. Thats why October and November will truly show what teams are real and what teams are just here to gloat. Dickinson dropping the ball at regionals is a bad look but they're consistently a good team through October. Now that base build phase is nearly over, the real racing can begin. Only way mideast gets 4 is like you said, Paul short and Rowan. Rowan has nationally ranked where everyone is together where Paul short is kinda separated. Lets say a team wins the White race from Mideast...How valuable is that versus that same team placing top 5 at Rowan against nationally ranked teams.

Paul Short Race

Ranked National teams are in Gold race and PS

Ranked regional teams are in Brown

Nonranked and rest of D3 in White with some D2?

If a White race team wins from Mideast and has a better overall team time than a ranked regional team in Brown that places near the bottom, does that mean the White race team rightfully deserves to be higher or no?

Rowan Race

This race is all D3 teams Nationally ranked and regionally ranked. If say the white winner places high here, do they become nationally ranked let alone regionally ranked? Lets say Moravian gets 5th-7th at rowan..do they get nationally ranked status assuming other ahead of them are already ranked higher. Regardless Rowan is worth more I feel in terms of head to head where as PS is to get a fast time.

This is Moravian's year! They have been on fire recently! I might be a little biased but I truly believe in them. So what if their program is focused on lower mileage and speed workouts year-round. That speed will help them once it comes times for 8k's. You can talk $hit on them all you want but they historically run well all year. None of this peeking nonsense or whatever you youngsters call it.

Hopkins, Haverford, Dickinson, Etown, and Moravian are all in brown this year, against a handful of out-of-region teams, some who are ranked nationally (just not particularly well), like WPI. A good performance at Rowan is definitely more valuable, and tbh I think if Paul Short changes anything it will be the in-region rankings for mideast. Haverford has been dropping in the national poll every week, so they have a chance to stall that this weekend.
