Makhloufi announced his comeback earlier this year and there was some discussion about it here on the boards, so this is not unexpected at all, actually. He also took some time off after 2012, I think.
For those who haven't heard of him, he was Olympic champion in the 1500m in 2012, ran 2:13.08 for 1000m and then 3:28.75 at Monaco in July 2015 and ran 1:42.61 for silver in the 800m in 2016 along with 3:50 for silver in the 1500m.

Yes, I kind of am. How does someone that follows int'l athletics as their profession not know something like this? It was even on his company's boards in some semblance fairly recently, as noted above. Hardly "least visible" either- perhaps to Americans on American track forums? TM posts fairly often on his IG and IG story.

1:46.33 is solid for his first race in three years. As for the Aden link, I did not believe he was clean in 2012 when he seemed to come out of nowhere to dominate and the example of Rashid Ramzi was still fresh in my mind. Nevertheless, the guy is very entertaining, among the greats all time already with the three Olympic gold/silver medals and among the best 800/1500 combinations of all time at 1:42.61/3:28.75, and so I'll wait to judge until the news is otherwise. I am looking forward to this comeback.
