He's an adjunct instructor of statistics. Most people can't tell the difference. My own students certainly can't. Old guy at front of room = professor.

You are NOT a professor either.
Assuming rule 143 is similar to how this rule is enforced in cycling, there is usually a grace period of sorts from when a professional athlete can start using gear and when the gear actually has to wind up in the hands of the public. It sounds like his shoe is being released here in 2020, and likely means it was fine. As we know Nike athletes are often racing in shoes that aren't available to the public but become available at a later date.
