On the men's side of NIRCA, it's interesting to look at what place the team champions were the year previously.
Penn State was 10th last year, Michigan was 6th the year before, Iowa State was 6th the year before that and Oregon was 8th the year before that. UC Davis didn't even attend nationals before they won in 2015.
The women's side tells a very different story. Michigan has won the last 3 years and was 4th the year before they won in 2017. Penn State won 2 years in a row (2015, 2016).
Will any men's team repeat in the coming years? I know Wisconsin and Indiana have done it before, but NIRCA has grown a lot since those years. Why are the 2 genders so different? Does this have to deal with men developing physically over college, whereas freshman women are competitive with seniors? Those fast freshman could continue to dominate over their college career.
