The new roommate (i.e. apartment mate) moved in 1-2 months back, closer to 2 months now. We share a living space/kitchen (which is small) and then have our own room/bathroom (which is a bit bigger). The housing is randomly assigned via the campus system, so it's not like I was responsible for finding the roommate.
Since then, we still haven't met. Is this abnormal? There are times when I think we're both home but just don't talk and have happened to use the kitchen at separate times. At this point, I'm feeling like it would be awkward to meet, given that we haven't talked this whole time.
I got a new apartment mate 1-2 months back, and we still haven't met. Is this normal?

If you wanna talk, just say hi.

It's normal, don't make it awkward by forcing a conversation from him

Sounds like Fight Club. You should see a shrink to make sure you are not imagining the roommate.
-
He’s probably still eating the previous tenant, so don’t worry about it. You’ll meet him...

I see dead people too.

Tap out something in morse code on the wall. Maybe you are in the Hanoi Hilton and don't realize it.

this is probably the best apartment mate you could ask for. keep the avoidance train rolling.

Don't shoot yourself in the mouth and blow up a bunch of buildings.

I don't think this is too unusual. I lived in a 4-person townhouse in college. Same situation as you: university operated housing, and they just assigned people randomly to their rooms. I basically never saw two of my roommates. I randomly ran into one of them in the dining hall one night, and it took me a minute to figure out where I recognized him from.

The less I know about other people’s affairs, the happier I am. I’m not interested in caring about people. I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes.

As long as roomie is clean & quiet, what more can you ask for? I would kill to have my own bathroom in a roomate situation.
Don't rock the boat. And if you want to meet your roomie, either knock on their door or leave a friendly note.
