Samuel Wanjiru has been around for the last three years; however, several posters on other threads say they haven't heard of him. He's won one of the most prestigous non Championship X-Country meet 3 years in a row. Samuel has also won numerous other x-country races and road races in 2004. The fact that many posters haven't heard of him ONLY shows that they aren't informed in athletics as much as they would like to think.
In comes 2005 and Samuel Wanjiru runs three (3) 10000m races under 27:40 and two under 27:10 and skepticism. The teenager is talented and his age is correct. The majority of the non-believers on this site are white Americans who act as if ALL Africans lie about their birthdate. The fact of the matter is most of the birthdates are correct-only a few submit incorrect birthdates- just like most American athletes don't take steriods. The mass of Africans shouldn't be belittled for years and years over a small percentage that misrepresent themselves.
If it was European or white American teenager running those times after a hinting of his great talent, the board would be flooded with praise. Samuel Wanjiru is a talented teenager and I look forward to great things from him in the future. Cynics need not reply to this message.
Samuel Wanjiru ran the 1/2 marathon in anticipation of his move to the marathon. He is being coached by Koichi Morishita (Oly Silver-Marathon) and runs for the Toyota Kyushu team. The fact that his 1/2 marathon is slightly better than his 10000m, should imply he could go faster in the 10000m-or-like Paula he gets better the longer the race. GO Samuel GO!
