Coe had pbs of 51.8, 1:56.0, 3:55.0 and 8:34.6 at 16; all run in 1973.
At this time he was puny, very much still a child. About 5'5" and less than 100lb.
If so, that's totally amazing.

BFD. Laban Rotich ran 1:43 and 3:29 at 5'4" and 99 lbs.

Herb Elliott 17 seconds faster than Roger Bannister over a mile at the same age (20).
Elliott was only 9 years older than Bannister too, so almost the same generation.
Which means that Elliott was the first to break 4 minutes for a mile, since he did it at age 20.

Awesome. What age was he though?
truth. Forget drafting, you still have to pick your feet up and put them down. There is something to be said for a clean view and no choppy strides.
This kid is really strong, and patient. A lot of talent. More in his head than his body, which is way more important. It will be easier to find a little more speed than more strength

Hahah, yes, unfortunately my slip - I mean't to type Elliott was only 9 years younger.

I'll be interested to see how the kid develops. I doubt he'll get Wilson's ER, but will probably get down to 1:42 low/1:41 high at some point.
Interesting, are you related to Ventolin?
Can he beat Crams windy 1-42?
i dont trust british sport,or athletics,or athletes as far as i could kick them.the bulky brits are almost as drugged out of their minds as the americans, and of course both nations get a free pass. lets hope max is doing it clean, and proper.hes certainly an extraordinary talent,if he is.

You seem to be obsessed with bulk
Notwithstanding that ,I believe UKAD plays politics with antidoping and protects their own.
He is

Thank goodness I'm not.
Yes, I think he will beat Cram's PB.

Cram never ran a ‘windy 1:42!’
His only 1:42 was a 1:42.88 when in the beat form of his life, running in great conditions in Zurich 85.
He ran a 1:43.22 in slightly windy conditions in the Commonwealths in 86, which was worth sub 1:43 in a paced race in good conditions.
You're right
It was a windy 1000m from cram in 2-12 high
There wasn't any wind, but a faster field on a track like Monaco or Rieti he would go under 1:45.

Any footage of this?

Put the U23 final in the weeds.
Max turned 17 just over a month ago. Broke 1:50 when he was 15. I'm sold. Hope he doesn't get waylaid by the womenfolk.
I realize most U23s probably aren't training for this, but the only other quality track performance over the two days was Amber Anning's U20 400m 52.54 CBP. Some lean years ahead for UK Athletics.
Amazing run.

Such as this race where he negative split a 1:45.08

That is a 1:41 guy running tactically, he doesn't take the lead until after 700m. What Max did was very different. I'm pretty sure that Wilson had a rabbit for all or most of his PB races. Plus Wilson was an experienced master of his craft. What Max did was much more similar to the Fernandez race I linked above. A very special run by an up-and-coming talent.
Also noteworthy in this race is Fin Mclear who is a freshman at Miami University (Ohio). Got third with a 1:47.3 which puts him 12th in the NCAA overall and the fastest freshman in the NCAA via TFRRS. The future for him is very promising.
