Masciarelli destroyed 2 mile field just now at New Balance over the 2nd mile after winning 5K last night. 10:12, 10 second margin. Although KT would have made it even more of a mismatch on a good day.

Erika Vanderlende just won the Brooks 2 mile in 9:53:00. Katelynne Hart was second in 9:56:13.
Guys this is a pretty objective sport. It's not like this is basketball or baseball where is a lot of subjectivity and personal preference in what kind of player you want
KT's times are incredible and she is clearly the dominant distance runner in the country
She just ran a 901 3K back in January
The only thing that's changed is she had a lot of academics and when you study a lot and take a lot of tests obviously it's going to slow you down a little bit also she was dealing with some allergies
Sydney is a great Runner but it's obvious her personal-best times don't compare to KT's
There's other runners like starch or Parks starliper Hart that are a lot closer. To just come out with these wild posts is a little annoying because they are just pure hyperbole
I hope all these girls have awesome careers but in actuality you don't see a lot of really tall distance runners Katy has the perfect Bill to be an awesome distance Runner

+1
Vanderlende as well - has had quite the outdoor season this year
I recall similar posts prior to NXN about Covert winning that race.
Sydney just won the NBN 2 mile .... Chmiel DNS, Russell DNS
I think she studies hard at her prep school too, so I don't really give an athlete a pass because they are taking AP's. While I do I think Touhy has a mental edge, a lot of it is bravado. Sydney has proven she has the guts to make a statement on the track. She seems very humble. She reminds me of Kate Grace.
Masciarelli is definitely going to be better than Tuohy next year. Tuohy put 10 pounds on and will be taking a step backward while Masciarelli will be taking a huge step forward. Too much too soon for Tuohy just like many other prodigies.

PR's aren't everything. Mo Farah has tons of gold medals and he was consistently beating runners with faster PRs than him in championship races.
If Tuohy thought she could win any of these races, she would have been at the meet. It would have extended her season 1 week. She burned out then chickened out.
Even if you want to argue Masciarelli would lose to Tuohy right now, it's pretty obvious Masciarelli has a lot more potential. Tuohy has been training incredibly hard since middle school. Masciarelli trains 6 months a year.

That means nothing. Masciarelli just dominated the 2 mile at NBON in 10:11 all alone, less than 24 hours after winning the 5k. Masciarelli also beat Hart in XC.

How is it a wild post to say a 3x national champion (XC, outdoor 5k and outdoor 2 mile) who trains 6 months of the year is going to be extremely good?
How many times do the runners with the fastest PR's in high school end up being the best runners in college? There are so many examples of early burn out. Out of all the runners at Nationals, Masciarelli almost definitely runs THE LEAST.
Read the book "Range" by David Epstein, he describes how generalists (Masciarelli, who also plays basketball) almost always succeed more than specialists (Tuohy).
Your post is even more wild, saying she won't run well because she's too tall. Her height certainly isn't affecting her now.
There have been hundreds of great HS distance runners. Why is Tuohy being singled out with all this bullsh*t. She might go on to be an outstanding professional runner or she might not, but what makes her so different besides being extremely talented? Ritz trained hard in HS, but I don't remember people saying he wouldn't improve after his Junior year.

The high-mileage hyper-obsessed pure runners who have been training their entire lives are guaranteed to become resentful of the sport and burn out hard.
What you say is quite interesting to me, as I'm in my 70's.
Oh well, if that happens then I'll just find something else to do.

It is interesting. Evidently, Tuohy's parents had her crawling 10×10ft repeats at age one.
I don’t think they become resentful - I think they don’t get the same reward as they do in early hs. College it all balances out - all kids are training hard, mileage, lifting year round... in hs - you won because you had talent and were one of few going all in. And katelyn is all in with mileage, year round, lifting, drills, core, diet, swims for extra work. Even if her body doesn’t change - the reward for that level becomes less and it isn’t as fun... Jordan has at barely lifted in hs, didn’t run indoor, ran outdoor nationals once maybe.
Mo Farah had a world record in the 2-mile and a blazing fast kick and some of the fastest mile times for distance Runners
He wasn't beating guys with PRS at every distance
He might have beat a few guys with faster piaras in 5K 10K but that's cuz he had a blazing fast kick
The analogy makes no sense in this comparison
Katie has faster times from like 20 30 40 50 seconds in the similar distances it's not even close
It's a wild post because their best times aren't even close
KT ran 20 seconds faster in the 3000 this year. She's run 45 seconds faster at 5K.
Per mile time is at least 10 if not 15 seconds faster
Her 5K time is around 40 seconds faster
And in terms of longevity she certainly has a great build for distance running. So your original post is wild because when someone has run 40 seconds faster it's not really much of an argument about who is the faster runner

What she does not have is a win over Sydney?
And Sydney does not have a win over her you say?
Well they were supposed to race this weekend, but only one of them showed up...

4 seconds faster at 800

20 seconds faster at 3K
45 seconds faster at 5K
And 55 seconds faster at Cross Country
I wish both of these girls the best they're both off some young athletes. But to start a post that one is all the sudden better than the other when clearly the numbers indicate otherwise is just silly
