I always thought Cory McGee had run closer to 4:01 or 4:02 especially since she has made it to a few national teams.
McGee is good, but she's nowhere near THAT good. In the last 5 years, only four American women -- Martinez, Houlihan, Simpson & Rowbury -- have run under 4:03. And in this century, only 12 American women have. Most of them are the ones you'd guess -- Uceny, Favor-Hamilton, Jacobs, Willard, Wurth Thomas. (The biggest surprise is Gabe Grunewald, who ran a 4:01.48 in Monaco in 2013.)
As for Cory McGee, she's in the middle of the second tier of American 1500 runners. She has the 18th fastest 1500 time in the last two years. She regularly finishes behind the women ahead of her, including Colleen Quigley, Kate Grace, Amanda Eccleston, Alexa Efraimson, Emily Lipari and Helen Schlachtenhaufen. McGee has made one outdoor team. That was in 2013, when she was 3d in Des Moines in 4:29.

This could be my total ignorance, but does Coburn come from money, or is it from her own endorsements? I see a lot on these boards hinting towards her family's wealth, but don't really know the story (not that it matters, but folks seem to get their panties in a twist about it).
Both. She makes a ton of $$$ running.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
