So you have your runners doing 1x5000m all out before the race? After all what could be more specific for a 5k race? Surely not taking breaks every couple mins?:) Specificity is good the questions is how specific. Running versus nonrunning is clear. Are you better off doing 3 miles of "specific" work like 6x1000@5k pace or are you better off doing another 40mpw of nonspecific easy running? The answer to that isn't remotely as clear. Better off doing 10x3:00 at 10k pace or 6x3:00 at 5k pace? Good look answering that question.
