Tripp Hurt (4:03.9) and Nikki Hiltz (4:29.7) Won Tuesday's USATF 1 Mile Road Championships

Why is this race on a Tuesday with zero marketing? Had no idea about this race.

Hiltz just ran a 2:01:37 800 last weekend also. I think she lowered her 800 PR by 4 seconds! It looks like adidas has a good one. I saw her run in the CCS 1600 finals for Aptos High School and she has an unbelievable kick.

It's on a Tuesday because it's part of Drake Relays week and they do something different every day.

Today is the indoor pole vault.

There's lots of marketing in Des Moines. The fields this year seem weaker than in years past, no big names on the men's or women's side. Drake seems to have spent all their money on hurdlers.

How can the announcer at the start of the mens race say with a straight face and not bust out laughing that leer is one of the pre race favorites

Too bad this is kind of an underwhelming field.

Nice to see two GA high school runners go 1 2 even if the field was not loaded, it was still a bunch of decent runners. Coming out of HS Hurt was a 1:54/4:20 guy and Brandon was 1:59/4:29 - both have come a long way.

Wonder if Hurt will still steeple this spring/summer.

Yes they put way too much money into the 110/100 hurdles.

I wish they put it in something a little longer like the 800. A few years ago they had a loaded 400 that saw Karani James run 44.08. The mile has been tactical the past couple years, do they really not have a pacer for that? The sole purpose for some of the runners in there is to break 4 minutes.

The hurdles are over in 12-14 seconds. Not worth the $20k+ in my opinion for the prize money in the event. Last year we saw Jenny Simpson set the AR in the full two mile, that was worth the money.

Something to look for, the junior college runner Kenny Bednarik (can't spell it right) is in the elite 200 Friday night. He just ran a slightly wind-aided 20.12 a couple weeks ago winning by a mile. Could be exciting to see if he goes under 20.

Back to the road mile, solid field for the women, not so much for the men. Only a couple of the men even specialize in the 1500/mile.

Most of the Men's field had gone sub 4. None ran a stellar time. I'm sure Mikey wanted a better result but let's not lose sight of the fact that his autism impacts his ability to do some of the most simplest of things that we take for granted. He would have beat the 2600 plus in the open race and beat the 2nd place finisher by over 40 meters. Not too shabby for a Paralympic runner. And for the record, Will Leer would not have finished behind you in this or any race.

Road Races were last weekend. Mile is Tuesday to allow the runners to turn around an run the 800 or mile on the track and double dip.

How sure are you I cannot or have not beaten Leer a number of times

Is there any way Will Leer is sponsored with actual money nowadays? Does his wife make enough to support both of them? The finances of our sub-elite distance runners is a true mystery!
