Epic analogy failure. "Lots of long jumpers" and WVN are not even remotely comparable.
Just trying to get a rise out of you malmo (not hard to do). But also pointing out that it is possible to be "a world away" from a world record and still be better than that WR holder's # 2 performance. A joke, and a valid point at the same time. (btw, you're critique of my analogy was a "failure" itself: I wasn't comparing, as you state, "lots of long jumpers" to WVN, was I? I was comparing Beamon and WVN, and "lots of LJ's" to Norman. Right? Right.
But yes, no one is "remotely comparable" to Beamon, as far as holding a WR and having their #2 performance be so much behind their record, certainly than I can think of. (however, WVN's WR was a pretty big jump for him over his previous PB. Almost a 1/2 second is something. And he'll likely, post injury, never beat his WR.)
