You people sure put a lot of weight on Farah beating Rupp in Chicago yet you know damn well Rupp was injured. Why is that?
It doesn’t matter if Rupp was injured or hungover following a circumsion ceremony or what, my rankings are based on results.
Rupp would have likely ranked top-5 at the end of 2017. Off the top of my head, Kipchoge, G. Kirui, Kipsang, D. Wanjiru and/or Bekele would have joined him in the top-5—and only one of those men still ranks in the top-10. It’s a competitive world.
Format: marathon finishes within the past 18 months in chronological order separated by commas, with WMM finishes marked with an asterisk - number of top-10 ranked athletes they’ve beaten in the past 18 months/number of unranked athletes who’ve beaten them in that time - fastest time in the past 18 months.
I excluded Kipserem’s time at Abu Dhabi, but included his 1st place.
I tacked Rupp’s figures on at the end for all the homers who don’t understand why Farah ranks ahead of him.
1. Eliud Kipchoge - 1*, 1*, 1* - 5/0 - 2:01:39
2. Lawrence Cherono - 7*, 1, 1* - 2/3 - 2:04:06
3. Mosinet Geremew - 1, 2*, 2* - 4/0 - 2:02:55
4. Lelisa Desisa - 3*, DNF*, 1*, 2* - 1/2 - 2:05:59
5. Mule Wasihun - 6, 2, 3* - 2/4 - 2:03:16
6. Shura Kitata - 2*, 2*, 4* - 2/0 - 2:04:49
7. Getaneh Molla - 1 - 0/0 - 2:03:34
8. Marius Kipserem - 5, 1, 1 - 1/3 - 2:04:11
9. Mo Farah - 3*, 1*, 5* - 2/0 - 2:05:11
