Other than temporarily preventing the mentally disturbed from owning weapons or implementing a waiting period before allowing any random freak to purchase a pump-action shotgun, what could be done to prevent this???

Why are they calling it a manhunt if a female is the suspect?

Prevent what? A citizen traveling from one state to another? What crime has she committed?

You think threatening violence against a school is lawful behavior?

Police have stated they don't have enough to arrest her. They are instructed to stop her for a mental health evaluation and to contact their superiors.

Threatening violence is probably against the law, but apparently she’s not done that. Police have no PC to arrest her by their own admission.
Next?

Man = species (includes male and female).
"Man" is short for huMAN. Which is a gender neutral term.
Update: looks like the cops "found" her dead.

Hey, that's RACIST!

There is nothing in the article that says she committed a crime of any kind. It sounds like the Thought Police.
Since when is being "infatuated with" some crime a crime? And who determines this "infatuation" in the first place?
Since when is purchasing a gun a crime?
Or perhaps flying on an airplane was her crime.
The whole thing doesn't make any sense with just the information provided in the article.

They have good reason to be suspicious and question her. But there is no reason to criticize the cops or our gun laws. We live in a free society. I don’t want to live in a society where the State is trying to take great measures to prevent any conceivable crime that could be committed.

It is kind of a "brave new world". When people post stuff on social media that draws the attention of law enforcement, that's really on them. It's not like they spied on her. She put stuff out in the public domain that indicated she might be a threat. I much prefer them following up on those leads and preventing another school shooting than doing nothing. I think they did the right thing here.
You pointing out the fact that she didn't commit any crimes actually implies that our gun laws aren't good enough. Gun nuts always argue that we have the laws and just need to enforce them. That appears to not be the case. There should be a more thorough background check on all gun purchases.
How the hell does this constitute holding the entire city hostage? Why is this forum full of bullsh*t clickbait headlines? Seriously, this is the only forum I use where there is this kind of clickbait. If I wanted this sort of nonsense, I would go surf Daily Mail with my adblocker off.
At least 4 school districts cancelled classes because of this "teen". She looks 30 to me.
She was "found" dead. I'm sure that's exactly what happened. Riiiiiiight.

Right. They should have waited for her to kill a bunch of kids, before alerting the schools. Effing idiot!
School shootings are a mental health issue right? Not a gun issue, right? Authorities we're trying to get her help and prevent her from killing others.
Good thing they took action and closed the schools and took away that opportunity before she did herself in.

My guess is she's bat sh*t crazy (bi-polar? schizo?) and probably did intend to do something..then when she realized people were after her and her "plan" wouldn't succeed, she killed herself.

Liberal logic:
“Police are all racist fascist pigs! Fk them all!”
But also: “Police should disregard the Constitution whenever something hurts my feelings!”
