Face it, you're an addict. That's the only reason you vape.
Here's a song for you:

PS, I'd be 100-150 yards ahead of you in a mile race.

Tastes good and I like the light buzz I get. I don’t do it in public, because that’s for weirdos and douchebags.
Nah man, I’m good lol keep it coming
I’d love to race, that 4:40 was solo. I’m sure I could give you a run for your money. I just run for fun really, nothing competitive anymore but I may get into some fast races eventually again. Haven’t really since high school.
You are not smart to do that.
Google "popcorn lung" and then stop vaping.
If you want to project to the world that you are a douche bag, dive a Hummer, wear a flat-brimmed hat, or wear wife beater t-shirts. Vaping isn't the only way to be a douche bag.
You're welcome.

You have a warped view of yourself. You can't get into a fast race again, because you have never been in a fast race ever based on what you've told us, unless you were at the back of some fast women's race.
Your mediocre mile times both from now and from high school tell us nothing about whether the vaping is good for you or not. It's not. You have a lot to learn young blood. There is time yet for you to stop being an idiot. Stop vaping, and ask yourself if it sounds like a good idea to concentrate anything and breathe it into your lungs like that. You won't like this because you are addicted, but what I say is true, and deep down you know it.
Young fool....only at the end will you understand. Your feeble running skills are no match for the power of the dark side. You will pay the price for your lack of vision.
Way to throw Derek & Tobin under the bus, Ryan.
Not world class, but a state champion in high school and all-conference at a Division 1 program in college. And no, I never smoked or vaped, but my mother did die of cancer from smoking. As a runner, you are nothing special and you are not invincible either.

Random bragging for no reason. Lots of sucky state champions and all-conference D1 runners out there. If you are going to brag, give us the digits.
I am sorry that your life is so meaningless. I hope you find something meaningful to do to escape your current misery.
Talent will get you to 4:30. Vaping is holding you back to 4:40. That is what it is costing you and any other runner who partakes. Yes you can beat many people, but you would be beating more people if you stopped vaping.

Nobody has ever gotten popcorn lung from vaping.
And anybody who says it slows you down X seconds/mile is totally full of it. The same kind of people try to put numbers on things like cutting out soda and doing planks. Both good things, but neither has a clear or quantifiable effect on perofrmance; they're part of a much bigger context, and they can matter more or less for different people depending on the athlete. E.g., the athlete who loses 5 lbs by cutting soda is going to have a big improvement, and the athlete who can't keep his hips stable late in a race will be helped by the core work.
Seriously, the only rational answers to the vaping question are:
- Certainly the safest choice not to do it.
- We need to do A LOT more research.
- As far as we can tell, health risks are minimal.
- If it helps you quit smoking, then by all means, vape away and you can feel pretty good about the lifestyle change you've made.

I don't smoke cigs or use nicotine in any fashion, but it's not always that black and white, straight forward.
I've been around college athletics, and interfaced with many outside of my given sport. The biggest threat to college athletics and all around performance, Alcohol. Without a doubt, without question, booze ruins your body, and it's wildly celebrated by athletes and non athletes because of our cultural acceptance. Nobody drinks just one or two drinks in college. As an athlete, we didn't realize it because of our youth, but it beats the hell out of your body. There were all conference, all american performers that said they'd take a few hits before boozing a few nights before a game or event, and it never affected their body and recovery like alcohol and fast food.
I don't believe vaping nicotine is in the recipe for athlete's success either, so let's be clear. There are many factors though that affect performance.

As of the time that I am typing this, there is ZERO evidence that long term vaping is a healthier alternative to smoking. If you have evidence that this is no longer true, please share.
A) What's you favorite vape flavor?
B) Do you vape nicotine or THC? If nicotine, are you nicotine dependent?
C) If nicotine, does it suck to be nicotine dependent? If THC, does it suck to be THC dependent?
D) Why do you vape? What's the point for you?
E) If nicotine, do you think nicotine is a performance enhancer (some studies allege it is)?
F) Do you think there are any negative consequences associated with vaping? Are you worried that sometime in the future you will suffer from debilitating COPD or some other pulmonary disease?
G) If nicotine, is nicotine really that fun? I don't get the point, but obviously some people seem to really enjoy it.

I'm suspecting that you have your own definition of "evidence" such that this will be a no-true-Scotsman discussion. But you couldn't be more wrong. Two seconds of googling:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5693960/. The NHS is now promoting vaping as an alternative to smoking:
https://www.nhs.uk/news/heart-and-lungs/long-term-vaping-far-safer-than-smoking-says-landmark-study/.
The mortality from cigarettes is well known and massive, but at present, the research is struggling to find any significant health problems with vaping, despite extensive study. No responsible doctor or scientist would suggest that vaping is totally safe or preferable to a totally nicotine free lifestyle, but the consensus that vaping is safer than smoking is overwhelming.
I eat a bag of potato chips every day and I run 4:40 in the mile so there is no negative impacts from the potato chips. Maybe if I vaped also, I could get to 4:39.
I am not going to promote vaping here, but I am sure it is better to vape than to smoke. I used to be a heavy smoker for 4 years and managed to quit exactly due to vaping and vape pod system Smok Novo 2 https://gypsyvapes.com/smok-novo-pod-kit , and the quality of running and health in general had improved much since then.
4.40 off 40 miles/week. Jesus Christ!
Vaping is obviously much worse for runners than anyone ever could have imagined.
