You know where more Americans are kidnapped than anywhere else? America.
Per capita, no. And not even close.
That's like saying its safer to swim into a deep whirlpool of water because technically more people die in the ocean than in whirlpools.

Americans live in fear.
We encourage you to keep traveling to these countries, frequently. Try Yemen and/or Afghanistan next. Don't stop, brah.

Nope. I have never said that.

Hmmm, their biggest exports are drugs, gang members, and people looking to flee to the US to escape the poverty and corruption, as well as ex-pat goons from other countries. America provides some 25-30% of their GNP. Not surprised they are on the list but surprised Americans want to visit there. Used to be a good running country.

I am making no statement by providing this list. Simply providing information. Stood out to me that Kenya and Ethiopia were on the list, and since this is a running forum, I thought some might find that interesting...at least in one case, a dude is about to travel to Kenya. Seems good information to have before going.
I hear you. It's from the State Department.
Kenya is cool. I am 99.9876354% positive. Your buddy will come out of it fine.
They forgot to include the US and whatever European country 'Taken' is based in.

Yeah, and good thing they have a nation full of addicted junkies right at their backdoor to export all their stuff too. US kids start medicating themselves from an early age and keep it up throughout their lives. No other group of people on earth who consume as many drugs 'recreationally.' Drug producers all over the globe love yanks!

It is funny that you say that, because I was in Michoacan, Mexico in February for week. US State Department Level 4 "DO NOT TRAVEL" zone, same as Yemen, Afghanistan, etc. Had a great week, fantastic food, nice weather, good people. Going back in September. Have fun at Disney or Gatlinburg or wherever people who live in fear travel for their vacations.
Besides the US Dept. of State many other countries and agencies also provide travel alerts and warnings. Here are just a few of the more prominent ones. Sometimes it's a good idea to look at how various countries view the world and the difference in warnings based upon other viewpoints.
US Dept. of State (USA)
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (UK)
Dept. Of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Australia)
New Zealand Foreign Affairs and Trade (NZ)
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan (JP)
It's true those 35 on the list aren't all the top tourist destinations. But I'd still like to go to Turkey. And if you stay in the "European" part of that country, I bet you'd still be safe.
You'd think they'd have some kind of separate distinction for the genocidal and war torn countries. There are things far worse than kidnapping that happen in those types of places.

I would have agreed with that up until about six months ago. Currently Turkey has been a bit unstable with the recent elections that took place on 31 March. There is quite a bit of turmoil going on and US-Turkey relations has been on a downward spiral.

Until a little country like Vietnam kicks the USA's butt, just like they did to the French and many others before them. You can add Afghanistan to that list as well. Afghanistan kicked out the Soviet Union and the British before them. Now the USA is defeated there as well. Not everybody has to do what they are told to do. It's called standing up to the bully.
