Noert, 29, the 2018 European marathon champ, came into the race with a 2;09:51 pb. His other PBs are very doable by American standards- 3:42, 7:58, 13:32, 28:32 and 61:42 - and he didn't break 2:10 in his first 6 marathons.
Noert's career marathon finishes before today.

This thread initially was entitled, "Koen Naert 2:07. Should we make him join WCAP, so he can run for the USA? " but we changed it and took it over. (quote)

Naert has the fundamentals to go even faster. That 3.42 is what caught my eye, basically sub. 4 speed. His track times...are decent but could be better. His potential should have seen 7.45, 13.22, and 27.45, based on his intrinsic speed, with the caveat that he achieved all those times when working as a nurse, a highly stressful job in Belgium, far from.ideal with standing and walking for long shifts and psychological pressures from the stress of dealing with difficult patients.
Naert is a Dutch speaker, although he knows basic French.
The country that produced such greats as Roelants, Lismont, Hagelsteens, Smet, DeBeck et. all continues to produce champs...(in football as well, in 2018 Belgium ranked 1 in FIFA!).
