True, even more embarrasing

I feel the same way. If you are fit enough to run as a masters athlete, then you never ran hard enough when you r young.
Joan Benoit for sure.

The OP is right. You and many others are geeks.
Bay Area snowflake. You've lost your edge due to your white privileges. Boring.
oh yes LR where everything is bad.
if you run as a Masters runner you are just sad old man trying to live glory days.
if you run ultras you're a trucker hat wearing douche.
if you dont run or do xfit youre just a muscle head idiot. or a fat @ss
if youre an elite Olympic runner you are on drugs
if you are a college runner, but not in a P5 you suck
so the only pepole allowed to run are d1 p5 runners, but you should immediately quit upon graduation.
so there you have it, a website about running where nobody thinks you should actually run.

Running is celebrated here more than almost everywhere else. Not sure what you are talking about. Keep running me boy.

MB Monster is close to the gestalt of the letsrun message board. Sure we celebrate running here, but the criteria outlined here are spot on. I'd add a few things.
if you run as a Masters runner you are just sad old man trying to live glory days, and/or you never any good to begin with (see notes below what it means to be good)
if you run ultras you're a trucker hat wearing douche. more or less, but if you are sage canaday or jim walmsley you get more threads and posts than any other runner on the planet
if you dont [sic] run or do xfit youre just a muscle head idiot. or a fat @ss yabut you have to run on your own in reverent silence of all the greats that post here, and not race post-college unless you are a pro.
if youre [sic] an elite Olympic runner you are on drugs a little more qualification needed here, >13:20 5K out of college you are a hobby jogger and should quit,
Yes, the ton and gripes of many of the posters on LR are far from supportive of the sport of running. I would hardly call it "celebrating" running at all!
Centro WON THE GD OLY GOLD MEDAL!!! The first US male to win a gold in the olympic 1500 since the 60's!!! And what was the reaching on here, the website that "celebrates" running (especially competitive running.)?
The jumped him for not running fast enough. yeah, dude WINS but didn't run fast enough so he catches crap. AND I speculate that had he won and set a WR in the same race they just would have said he was on drugs.
So it's OK to be good, just don't be too good.
There is a lot of support for running here. That does not mean you GEEKS cannot be called out once in awhile on your geekiness. I have never encountered such geeks in my life. It is not necessarily a bad thing, but come on...let us not live in denial. Most masters runners are big time GEEKS.
Some Masters guys are reliving their glory, but it's kind of cool. Why not!

Why not indeed. We oldsters can still show our heels to the young wimpy whippersnappers.
Tell that to Willie Gault.

Yup. Many of them seem to have a bit of that little man syndrome. I sometimes wonder how or why they stay motivated, but again, it could be that little man thing.

Or Sylvester Stallone: ?

The geeks actually have a thread about spanking younger runners. They are obviously off their meds.
I'm 35 and love Masters runners. They inspire me--if you have older men going 2:55 or better and older women going 3:15 or better at ages 40-55, that gives me hope I can get there. I'm getting there but not close yet.
Some of the Masters guys/gals have better times than they would have in HS!
Running is like buying the red Corvette for middle age guys. As an older fellow, I just shake my head at all these races they enter at one time.

These guys really do take the cake when it comes to geeky behavior. Can you imagine cheating in a race to be considered one of the best within this group of geeks?

Most of the elites are also cheating to be considered the best in their group.

Yes but at least there is a prize worth cheating for, if you are the cheating type. These cheating Masters geeks are like the guy who cheats on his wife with an ugly obese woman.
