The Republican Party must be terrified of AOC, I see no other explanation.
I'd say the majority of the Democratic Party is terrified of AOC. If she were to succeed in her policies becoming the mainstream platform of the Democratic Party, the Democrats will be virtually gift-wrapping for Trump a second term.
This. I constantly LOL at the liberals who get a tingle up their leg by saying to themselves 'ooohhh, the republicans are terrified!'.
The reality is, AOC and co. are tearing the DNC apart. The right is picking up the center-left spectrum folks by just being logical and far more truthful in their views. The left is resorting to the predictable one-up each other on the spiral down the socialist shi-ter.
Yeah, that certainly describes the right...

Why ios the media obsessed with this bimbo is the real question.

Well, she averages a new thread a week devoted to her on this forum, so if she's dumb, what does that make the people who take time out of their days every week to comment about her?
her parents owned a small apartment in the bronx, where she was born
when she was roughly 5, they bought a small house in yorktown 40 miles North in westchester
father worked in the bronx, so they kept the apartment
AOC (and her brother) attended yorktown school K-12
when she came back from BU, she claims to have moved back into the apartment in the Bronx - even did a photo shoot there with Annie Liebowitz
father passed away, Yorktown house now sold and her mother relocated to florida where she bought a condo
some reporters asked around in the neighborhood where the Bronx apartment is, and found none of the people on her floor had ever seen her, or at least recently, but her mail was coming there
confronted with this, AOC said she moved to a new apartment in the Bronx for safety and would not divulge the address
meanwhile she also is living in a luxury highrise in Washington - so DC housing, and the home apartment in her congressional district

Because we like to make fun of power-drunk morons that in the evolving stages of sociopathy. AOC is the epitome of a tyrant-in-the-making... and it's fascinating to observe.

I'm glad this thread stirred up some interesting conversation
as noted I am a democrat, and I have really no issue with many of the socialist ideas currently under discussion - Europe works pretty well.
I also am thrilled that AOC has a bourgeois BA from Boston U.
My point is that many leaders of socialist thinking like Bernie have spent years honing their thinking and earning their stripes, whereas AOC shows up on the scene reading the cliff notes version of socialist thought - and then spouts all her misunderstandings every day on twitter and TV.
She's a puppet, dishonest, and does not have thorough grounding and knowledge to do her job.
There is no way you are what you say you are. None of us who actually are (what you claim to be) would not invest time attacking her, and trying to soften it. You are not a Democrat, you are lying.

Sounds pretty socialist to me.
He launch a vigorous defense of Judge B Kavanaugh months ago. He's a Libertarian first, Republican second.

You write in a manner which shows contempt. A puppet? When Soviet Union was at their zenith, referring to someone left of Hubert Humphrey as a puppet of Soviet Union were phrases heard from time to time. Who are pulling the strings of A.O.C. in your opinion? Are you really simply expressing your dislike toward A.O.C?

Perfect example of why I laugh at conservatives every day. Their collective applied intelligence borders on absolute zero.
Donald Trump has a very good chance to win in 2020. He is in the most favorable scenario in American politics...an incumbent whose party has been in power only one term. Jimmy Carter is the only loser in more than a century from that spot.
But very soon the Silent Generation born 1928-1945 faces mortality. Whoops. There goes by far the most heavily red voting block. They will be replaced in the voter rolls by millennials voting more dependably, and young voters who tilt heavily blue. Even the replacement group of seniors is a blue generation, based on coming of age under JFK and LBJ. After the Silent Generation is gone, not one major voting block of a decade or more will tilt Republican.
Right wing radio helps with the lies but it also restricts GOP upside. No more concealing who you really are. When Trump won in 2016, his 46% of the popular vote was exponentially more instructive of where we are headed, than the technicality of the electoral college result. Naturally the genius right wingers didn't understand as much.
The nation was 20% liberals in 2004. That number has now climbed to 27%. I realize Fox News is too scared to mention this type of thing. It is the reason socialism is the new scare tactic. Liberal has lost full effectiveness. Once the Silent Generation dies out that 27% will reach 30% very quickly. A state like Arizona reported 27% liberals in 2016, which was astounding. Trump won Michigan and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin unexpectedly, but there was no demographic shift in any of those states. It was short term betrayal due to lack of attention. Contrast to Arizona and Georgia and Texas, which are shifting steadily in meaningful fashion. Not ready to flip yet, but they are taking the same path as Virginia and Colorado and Nevada before them.
Anyway, Ocasio-Cortez is extremely valuable to Simplistic Angry Males because she is a Hillary replacement for frothing fear, but more than 40 years younger. Since conservatives don't know anything they desperately require the easy reference points. David Brock in his great book, "Blinded by the Right," pointed out that right wingers are particularly terrified of women in position of power, to the point the conservative magazines would have their sales more than double if a prominent female was mocked on the cover. Nothing has changed 20 years later, other than instant fear instead of waiting for that magazine cover.
I can't wait for everything to be called socialism in 2020. If a Democrat eats a sandwich, that's a socialist sandwich. It is so wonderful that right wing white males dominate sports-oriented message boards. I'm never wondering what they are scared of today.

You are totally clueless about what socialism is. No member of either the Democratic party or the DSA is a socialist. They are soc-Dems, happy-face welfare-state capitalists, old-school liberalism repackaged. AOC is not on the left, and neither is anyone who supports her.
Let's take a look at some of the young freshmen Republicans in the house:
Anthony Gonzalez: Ohio rep. Former NFL wide receiver (and a very below average one). Got an MBA at Stanford after retiring from the NFL. Spent a little over a year at an educational software company before moving back to the district to run for office. Prior government experience or political activism: 0.
Dan Crenshaw: Former Navy seal. Tufts undergrad and Harvard MPA. Prior government experience or political activism: short time as legislative assistant for Pete Sessions.
How did these two get into office when piles of Republican candidates with long political resumes did not? They were recruited. Gonzalez was popular because he played for OSU and could also be a token Hispanic for Republicans. Crenshaw was a troop who lost an eye in combat and has an eye patch. Compared to AOC, these two are political light weights. But no one follows anything these two do because they are dull Republican party loyalists with no following.

Hahaha, I see what you did there. Nice.
So you're saying that AOC doesn't bring any of this on herself? It's all b/c Republicans are scared of a brown lady right?
It has nothing to do with her proposal that even her own party has said they can't pay for, or her calling everyone under the sun out, or her lack of knowledge on fundamentals such as how unemployment work?
Yeah, Gonzalez and Crenshaw are doing the same stuff as her, probably no different at all.
There was real talk, pro & con of federal government take over of US banks, 2008. It was good those conversations were occurring. Explain to us why you are happy the banks were bailed out and thousands lost their homes. Government take over of US banks (cheaper than bailing out banks), making home owners whole, you would be singing a different tune if that occurred.
I just hate her. It's a feeling I get. Anything bad said about her must be true. She can't possibly have been elected legitimately.
That North Carolina ballot tampering by the Republican Party? All lies. Russian planted fake news on Facebook? Not true, because I believe every one of them. NY Times is fake news! Trump ties to Russia. All lies. He's a self made man! Multiple people on Trump's inner circle convicted for lying to congress and generally cheating America? It's got nothing to do with Trump. He's a good man with only benevolent goals for the working class American.
I also hate socialism. We gotta get rid of that disease in America. Oh, except when AIG and all the banks fail at capitalism... Then we NEED socialism to bail them out. Oh, and I don't want to give up Social Security, or military, or police, or roads, or schools, or ....
I'm a Republican and I watch FOX news.
