why don't we ask Paul Chelimo. he is the reigning US Champion at 3000m. or Bernard Lagat, he only won the US title four times, I'm fairly sure he counts as "someone who follows the sport." or what about Ryan Hill. he set the meet record at the US Championships in 2016 to beat a record held by Moses Kiptanui. do you think they count as "someone who follows the sport." ?
if you don't like the 3000m that's fine, but please don't project your prejudice onto others. apart from anything else, it devalues your attempt to position yourself as a journalist. you know, that balance of ideas thing where you present the pros and cons of a story and let readers decide for themselves. drum banging is for bloggers.
cheers.
I used too much hyperbole. I pulled a rojo. 3k means something but not as much as 5000.
And I agree with the poster above that the top 5,000 in Brussels last year was the top distance event on the circuit. People will be talking about it for years. 6 extra minutes of running (where there could be commercial breaks which are needed for TV) is not a bad thing.
With a 3k, you'd better not take a commercial.
