What are you talking about, athletes won't talk to the site?
Top athletes talk to the site all the time. We should start doing more podcasts to get them on, but I bet there's been less than 10 times when someone has refused to talk to us.
At USATF Indoors, Drew Hunter and his Tinman guys got a kick out of me talking to Tinman himself. They took a picture. Prior to this when Drew was talking to another journalist (I was there as well but had not yet asked him a quesion) about why he ran the 2 mile instead of the 5000 in Boston, and then he looked at me and said something along the lines of having to "make letsrun happy." It was said with a smile. So I guess I can't say Drew is a fan of the site without asking him, but he was very friendly to us in NY.
We talked about this on the podcast and had the audio from Drew.
Alberto Salazar is the one guy I feel most uncomfortable talking to and I should get over it and at least try and ask him questions about his guys training as they are doing tremendous things on the track. I swear at Millrose I was going to talk to him after his guys did a workout but right as I was going to at least try and ask him a few questions I ran into the head of high school track at the Armory and then Alberto was gone. The joke from the other LetsRun guys is I'm all talk and had a convenient excuse.
Can you not see any nuance?
I doubt Jerry or Shelby is really upset because we wish she'd run World Cross and are making what is in essence a joke about it using a popular LetsRun meme.
Jerry avoides the media spotlight but I think he'd laugh at a "Not Jerry Certified" shirt. If he didn't think it was funny no big deal. Yes we wish Shelby was running World Cross but it's badass as hell she ran US cross and I don't blame her for focusing on being healthy for Worlds on the track.
But I think we should turn around the phrases. An Olympic bronze medal is "Rupp certified". An DL win in the 1500 is "Shelbo approved"
