I was astonished the dog did not slow and send them both to the ground. Fam must be in sub 4:15 shape to do that.

Is the pulling dog actually making him go faster? Could he have run 3:59 without the dog??? In any case, this whole stunt is really reckless.

4- Fam has weird floppy feet

4--yes, yes he does. Was always like that during his prime as well-- I remember photos of him landing with his feet pointed outwards 45 degrees.
5--Agreed. 30s in I had to skip to the end.
Does this mean Fam has given up trying to dominate the ULTRAMARATHON world?
Awesome thread! I was completely unaware of dog-assisted running until I saw this. Kipchoge’s next breaking 2 attempt should be dog-assisted imo. He could swap pups every 5k or so and maybe even break 1:50 with proper preparation!
Pretty cool, Run Like Hell !
If Famigletti ran 3:59 with a dog wearing flats AND on pavement SOLO, he is definitely in sub 4 shape on a track with spikes and a pacer. Very very impressive and unique idea!
Where is Ventolin when you need him? The dog with spikes could go sub 3:30.

So it begs the question... what is animal kingdom WR for the mile? Of course you have the speed demons like cheetahs and greyhounds but can they sustain it for a mile? What about a marathon?
Many species of animal could do 1:35 or better.
A saluki could likely string a whole series of sub 2 miles in a row.

No Moron.
Dog clearly has intrinsic tarmac ^sub 3:00 without headwind plus carrying Fam ~135lbs weight.
On mondo without wind or dragging Fam's 135 lbs dog easily has intrinsic ^sub 2:30 even when lapping bewildered opponents.
Dog would dispatch toxplasmotic Coe and his Rome stray cats after first 200m of mile (!) race plus Kloufi would be worried after 300m
EPO loaded Kiprop would have no chance even when leg press trained.
Only hope is for Centro in tactical last 50m with dog eating dog treats in race.
Learn too analyze.

Brilliant! Thank you for this.

He recently ran an indoor mile in 4:21. Having a dog is a huge advantage. When Fam is in the air, the dog is continuing to pull him forward at sub 4:00 pace. There's an English guy who runs just under 15 minutes on the road but can run sub 13:00 with his dog.

World-record for a thoroughbred racehorse is 1 mile on a dirt-track is 1:32 and change by Dr Fager back in 1968 (tied by Najran a few years back). On grass there are a few in 1:31s.
Not sure if any other animal can top that.
Does the dog get a record for fastest mile dragging a human?

Is Webb coaching the guy or the dog? The dog cut the course just after 2 minutes.
Very good point
That was amazing. Not actually a world record like some have pointed out, but still fantastic.
Dog was looking back at some points like "Why you so slow? Keep up!"
If he could sustain more vertical airtime, dog could pull faster like child running with balloon in hand.
What's most amazing about this is that there are so many replies that think there's something extraordinary about this dog. This dog is completely average. Go down to your local shelter and pick up 5 of them. I do this with my dogs around the neighborhood while they pull me on a longboard (and usually they pull me when we're running). We absolutely fly around the neighborhood. If I trained them to not get distracted so easily and wanting to pee on everything, my shelter dogs could do this.
It's a cool video, just nothing extraordinary. Also, the same idiotic musings about what the fastest animal is and wondering if said animal could sustain it for a mile. Humans would get annihilated by no fewer than 100 different animals in any distance well past 1 mile. Humans are only good for persistence hunting where the temperature has to be like 95+ with the sun blaring down on you... and little to no shade.
video from that 12:24 5K I think, geebus that's insane
