All I want to know is why do these cheaters always look like the biggest losers ever. They are always fat and/or have tats or piercings everywhere. Has anyone ever seen an attractive or normal looking cheater?
Uh-Oh. Looks like it's shut down again!

The legal problem for Big'Ole Murphy is that he has turned it into a business. He solicits "donations" on his web postings where he is illegally posting clearly labeled copy righted material. He solicits and is a contractor for races to hire him as a race marshal.
If I was photographing runners and trying to sell those pictures then I wouldn't be happy that someone is stealing my work in order to target my potential customers.
If Derek needs to use pictures during his investigations then he should use his own cameras during races and stop stealing the work of others.
Are you the same poster as "Charity" on his website? Same argument and a lousy one. The race photo people are the ones who can decide what's fair use. He paid for the photographs.
Instagram photos? Remember the fourspace bandit. The NY Post posted the photos in their story. Did they sue the paper for using their own photos? No. Same deal here, IMO. I'm not a lawyer, but there seems to be precedence to allow use of instagram and public marathon photos.

You believe wrong, I prefer British English over the bastardised American version of English.

I don't have a problem with Marathon Investigation. I do have a problem with some of the crazies that post on cheating threads here.

These posts confirm you need counselling to enable you to get a life

Of course they can’t, it’s not an email.

Are you being serious ?
Honest runners who post stuff would love the publicity. So would their charities or signature “causes.” Who posts to be ignored?

I have no knowledge of whether they can or not. but...
on more than one occasion, one or other of the BroJos has claimed that they can.
I have seen posts in which they say, "the above post was by the OP" or similar, in situations where a single person was essentially having an argument with themself and got called out on it.
cheers.

I am an admin of my running club's forum, the IP of the poster is recorded in a post, only admins get to see this.

Is the New York Times a business (hint: Yes!)? Do they get to rely on fair use (hint: Yes!)?

The whole point of copyright is to protect the investment of a publisher so they can't be undercut by others. ally.
This shows a misunderstanding of copyright, and it probably came from someone trying to justify copyright infringement. Copyright initially vest in the creator. Copyright protects creators and even in a digital word there are still creators.

What about internet memes where a copyrighted picture is used multiple times with witty remarks on them?
Is that "fair use"? Or can an internet blogger be sued for it?
I like how this thread has gradually morphed from people who don't understand copyright law arguing about fair use to people who don't understand how the internet works arguing about ip lookups.
And I don't get the whole thicc thing, from the pictures I saw when the site was up, she's an unattractive mess.

1. The site is down to some users because he changed servers. Some ISPs pick it up before others.
2. Almost every website captures IP address when a form is filled out. Heck, the Brojos have this on here so you know almost anyone can do it!
3. She is thick. Not in a healthy way. Some might see attractive, I do not.
I still like what Derek is doing. As a previous poster said, it seems that whenever someone is called out on his site, one of the first things they do (after deny, deny, deny) is come on here and bad-mouth him. From what I understand, he gives them ample opportunity to clear their name/said claims (most of which are tips sent to him, not him finding them directly). Very few it seems actually provide any shred of evidence to dispute the claims.
1. Looks like a switch in hosting services. Original host probably booted him off for the copyright issues. Probably went to one of the more shady hosting services that are less likely to adhere to regulations.
