The GoFundMe is a little confusing - "being used to offset mounting medical costs". Does he not have health insurance? Surely medical expenses after sudden cardaic arrest are covered by any insurance... $100k is alot of money. Or is his family riding the good will of the running community in asking for donations? Idk medical expenses GoFundMes have always rubbed me the wrong way but it's more of a policy issue that they're ever needed anyway and not specifically against him.
the person that set up the gofundme, rachel kessler, is his girlfriend who's probably aware of his health insurance situation. also she is in law school so one would think she would know what's allowed to be raised and what the money can be used for.
maybe he has a plan with a gigantic deductible and they want the very best PT or whatever after he is released that insurance won't cover. that seems necessary as a professional runner.
I have no idea what the insurance situation is - but it would not be very hard if he was carrying a low fee policy with lots of network restrictions that uncovered costs would easily mount well over the 100K mark. Then there are all the costs after he gets out of the hospital which may not be covered. There might also be upfront legal costs if that means is used to try recover some money. In short, even with that big number they are trying to reach , I highly doubt that this is a money making proposition . Remember also what insurance will pay for (even under the best plans) and what the hospital might charge are two very different things.

Drew Hunter with $800. Nice chunk of change.
Will Georgaghan(sp?) Donated $1,000. Im a new fan of the dude.
Uhhh...Kemoy's job was running, and I doubt he made a whole ton of money from it. Now he can't run(presumably). How's he gonna make money?
Will he have workers comp? I have no idea...
But why hate on helping the guy? I honestly hope he makes a few bucks out of this...
Check out the video before you donate. Explanation? Anyone know what's up?

Justyn Knight donated $3315. I’m guessing that Campbell’s 5K PR.
The uneven number is probably because it was converted from Canadian dollars (I think his 5K PR is a bit faster than 33:15)

Have any of you been hurt on the job site? I assume Kemoy was not acting as a pacer out of the kindness in his heart. I assume Millrose Games hired Kemoy to be a pacer. While performing his work duties, Kemoy got hurt/suffered illness at the job site. This is a work comp. case. One does not use one's health insurance when one is hurt on job site. The medical bills come in. One may approach employer about paying said medical bills. If employer hesitates, one hires one or more attorneys to fight work comp. case. You guys talking about health insurance is bringing up an irrelevant issue.
Not a paid pacer? wrote:

He's not an employee, therefore no workers comp.

That would be 4,385 CDN right now, not exactly a round number.
Maybe it was what he had in his account or on his credit card.
Good for him.

Wow, you're dumb.
He is not an employee of the New York Road Runners, we was a one-time contractor.
Let me explain this to you. If I hire you as a clown my birthday party so that my friends and I can throw rotten vegetables at you, and your heart stops while I whip a putrid tomato at you, I do not need to pay your medical bills.
Also, even if you suggest (stupidly) that Campbell should "approach employer about paying said medical bills. If employer hesitates, one hires one or more attorneys to fight," that is not exactly going to solve the problem that he needs a ventilator or an induced coma NOW, is it? Most Americans and most Jamaicans don't have tens of thousands lying around ready to spend and take up the court case later. Think a bit.

Im sure Ray will deduct his donation from the commission he gets from Kemoy.
Cheap, corrupt individual is Mr. Flynn.
I on the other hand am sure that Ray is doing much more behind the scenes to help Kemoy. He helped kick off the Gofundme with a modest contribution. But why would he subject additional funds to Gofundme's considerable service charge, when he could simply deliver them to Kemoy in person?
Gofundme is great if you don't know someone well and don't know how else to get them money. It's also a great way to put your name out in public as a supporter. But if someone I was truly close to me needed money, the last thing I would do would be to funnel it through Gofundme.
Are you Ray Flynn? You have absolutely no idea if he is doing anything behind the scenes so why are you claiming that you are "sure" he is? He also didn't help "kick off" the Gofundme. He gave an embarrassingly paltry amount well after it started. For anyone who was at the meet, he was AWOL during the entire situation.

Flynn is cheap, kind of a sleaze ball for any who have know him over the years.
Reebok pres stepped up with $50k.
Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all of the generous donations. We really appreciate all of the love and support.
On Monday, Kemoy came off sedation and almost immediately was able to talk. When I arrived at the hospital, he flashed me a famous Kemoy Campbell smile and it was incredible. That day, we were able to talk with him a little bit and he was able to eat in small amounts.
Yesterday Kemoy walked three laps around the CCU! It was an amazing sight.
Although Kemoy still has a long road ahead of him, the progress is encouraging. He loves you all very much.
Thank you!

TO BE CLEAR... this is the text that Rachel Kessler posted on the GoFundMe page linked.
"Let me explain this to you. If I hire you as a clown my birthday party so that my friends and I can throw rotten vegetables at you, and your heart stops while I whip a putrid tomato at you, I do not need to pay your medical bills."
Incorrect. You are held liable for the injuries occurring on your property due to your negligence. Same thing applies with any party or event held on your property. You are accountable for providing a safe environment and liable for any injury or accident occurrence. Person walking on the sidewalk steps into your yard to let another pedestrian pass. During this process, they step awkwardly breaking their ankle on your sprinkler head. You're liable for their injuries.
In Kemoy's' case, negligence being lack of access to appropriate medical care, regardless of 'rabbit' / consultant, or employee of Reebok Boston.
I suspect he doesn’t have health insurance. Even a low premium health insurance should cover a majority of the bills for a catastrophic, unexpected health event. If Reebok is putting up 50 k, they’re probably aware of this as well.
So anyone know why he collapsed in the first place? That's something I've always been afraid of, collapsing like that but in the middle of a training run.
