I guess we don't know in what mile form Houlihan is right now. Why does the best Bowerman runner not start at Millrose? Otherwise she does have far better kick speed than Klosterhalfen. So if she could have kept up with the pace, Houlihan would have won.
Not sure if Klosterhalfen went all out last night, she looked fairly relaxed and had a comfortable lead already at halfway through the race. But she has in the past run solos close to her best times (3:59 in 2017 German CS), so while I don't think she would have been more than about a second slower in a time trial, she might not be more than a second faster with a superior runner breathing down her neck either.
