What a joke.

Sammy Kipketer's 12:59 is the World Record, you can't deny it by setting a time to beat from a certain date.

Well you have to start somewhere using the same rule for everyone. Was Carlsbad a certified distance ?

Daniels says Wanders' 58:13 HM is worth 12:55 over 5k so we'll see how he does in Monaco next week. Might not be fully recovered though !

Carlsbad is certified. Wanders will not run near 12:55 fully recovered or not, he doesn't have the speed to run close to that on a track and this is a road race. Worth means nothing, Moen's 5k pr is 13:20 on a track and he ran 59:4x and 2:05.

Sammy Kipketer was a legit 5k and 10k runner who ran 12:4x and 26:4x on the track. Dejen Gebremeskel ran 12:46 on the the track and wanted to break Kipketer's record but never got close. That 12:59 is a legitimate beast of a time, Kipketer ran a sub 4 first mile in that race. It's a record only the true track greats will approach.

Let's see what happens in Monaco next week. So far this year the WL is 14:26 in St Augustine.

It's not enough that Carlsbad is certified. Remember when Lagat broke the American record for road 5K at Carlsbad and they re-measured the course and it turned out to be short. They likely didn't do this after Kipketer's run thus it can't be the WR.

I don't care about this rule.

More people need to appreciate the fact that full grown men like Kipketer and Gebremeskel ran road 5ks in peak shape and did the dirty.

Exactly. Carlsbad was BS and those times shouldn't count. Kipketer should not own that record. He was likely worth around 13:10-13:15 for a road 5k at the time.

What happened to 12:55 fitness?lol

Is there any reason besides the fact that the IAAF used to not recognize the event that the can't just borrow the ARRS records? They have documented this event for awhile, with WRs of 12:59.5 for men and 14:32 (run only 2 years ago) for women.

The IAAF is a joke with this arbitrary 13:10 and 14:45.
