This seems to have flown under the radar but the world is getting a new World Record in 2019, the 5k world record...and losing 4 WRs (15km, 20km, 25km and 30km) as per Rule 261 of the IAAF Competition Rules.
There was a provision ("Initial record to be recognised after 1 January 2018. The performances shall be equal to or better than 13:10 (men) and 14:45 (women). If no such performances are achieved in 2018, the best performances of 2018 are recognised on 1 January 2019.") for a WR to appear in 2018 but either the requirements were not met or the IAAF website was not updated. Since no site that I could find lists 5km results I'm in the dark...
Anyway with the Herculis 5km in Monaco on February 17th with Wanders, Moen and Sifan Hassan among others there's going to be a fast WR to get going !
Anyone else looked into this ?
