Buying a house built in 1993. It has popcorn ceilings. Should I shell out the money to get them removed? How big a turn-off are they to other buyers?
They actually don’t bother me much, but will be an issue when I go to sell it, so thinking I should just get it done now before I move in. One problem is that I’ve got other repairs needed and it costs 6k.
Yes.
Before move in.
D.I.Y. Saves $$ but requires effort. And beer.
First buy 2 mil plastic tarps and put on floor everywhere affected.
Get either a pump sprayer or a garden hose with light spray setting.
Lightly spray ceilings with water but not so much it puddles on floor.
Drink a beer or eat lunch.
Do it again.
Let it almost dry but nit entirely.
Drink beer again. Maybe another too.
Now grab an ice scraper, the type that you use to chip ice off of driveway or sidewalks with a stout handle and is around 6" wide.
Scrape the ceiling of popcorn and try not to gouge the ceiling with the edge of scraper.
Good shoulder workout.
Have another beer.
Continue till its done.
Have your hot wife or gf help clean up.
Have more beer, yoy saved a thousand dollars.
....Next, hire drywall texturer to come refinish because most people suck at it.
