I, too, apologize for starting a separate thread on this wonderful man after my cursory check convinced me one did not already exist. I should have known better. Please feel free to deep-six it, malmo. And thanks to wineturtle for setting me straight.
There’s a great biography on TL out there. From it I learned that he and I had both spent some quality time in Westfield MA at different times. My favorite story was the one about him being banned from the local college campus for getting too friendly with some of the coeds there. Years later, that same institution gave TL an honorary doctorate. He loved the irony of that situation.
I only got to know TL in recent years. Naturally both times I spoke with him, we were at one of the local bars. He was always so friendly and willing to talk especially about own modest running and coaching. He made you feel special.
And let’s not forget that he is in the Bartenders Hall of Fame even though he would be the first to admit that his mixology skills were severely lacking. What was that famous drink called that he made...a Blue Whale?
RIP, Tommy. You will be missed by many.
