Too many gays and democrats on cruises.
Too many gays and democrats on cruises.
I figured it would be mostly (closeted) gay Republicans looking to try out the fudge tunnel action while the frumpy wife is locked into the spa package.

Disappointing you missed the Always Sunny references.

They won't say no due to the implications
Pro: 24/7 buffet. Con: Drinks get charged to your room, so you can up a nice sized bar tab if your not careful.

That's why you smuggle the booze onboard, like a teen going to a music festival. (Everclear is your friend here)
Agreed on the cursory part. The main appeal for us lies in the 11 different ports of call so we can decide where to best spend a full 2 weeks the following year, doing what you did. We’re lucky when we can get our schedules to allow that much away time at the same time.
The other appeal for me, personally, is simply being out on the North Sea. From what I saw online, the cruise we’re looking at doesn’t attract your typical cruise going crowd. It seems more peaceful. If I want lots of alcohol and a resort vibe, I’ve got corporate junkets for that.
I went on a cruise on my honeymoon many years ago and enjoyed it. The food was great and all you could eat. The stops were fun and we hung out with some other young couples. A highlite was during our stop in Grand Cayman. The waves that day broke really hard and would (was tempted to insert "literally") take off people's swim suits. We sat on a bench with a couple of beers and watched the show.
I ran laps around ship which was supposed to be five per mile. I was hitting 60 seconds per lap so obviously it was more than that. There was an old guy from our table that was outside timing and I couldn't convince him I wasn't running 5-minute pace.

Another reason to not like cruises: incorrectly measured tracks. I feel like it would be hard to run when the boat is moving, too.

It's odd for sure. The outdoor track is a little easier. Staying centered on the treadmill when the ship is at sea is an adventure.

The Costs Concordia would have been a memorable cruise due to that pesky grounding and rollover..
Also, a lot of individuals mysteriously go missing on cruises. Drunks, suicides, murder or someone seasick puking over the side and tumbles?
No one yells "man overboard" any more.
I couldn't find him on the net, but the Red Sox had a prospect named Garcia back in '80s that, when I closed my eyes, could see him hitting 30+ homers a year. Instead, he went on a cruise for his honeymoon, put on 30lbs and never played well again.
I've had friends who love them tell me that I would hate them! And I think they're right.
But, I think that some people like that they make them feel wealthy and pampered.

Nomar Garciaparra?
He came up as a 150 pound shortstop ended his career out wesr at 208 or so due to 'roids.
I must be an extreme outlier here. I love cruising, and go on two per year. The entertainment is good, the ships are amazing, get to relax in the sun and heat in the middle of winter. The food is so-so but totally passable.
I go on Royal Caribbean only, and if possible, Oasis class ships because they have a full track on level 7 (or 5, I forget).

No, when he put on 30lbs and appeared shirtless on the cover of SI, he hurt his wrist, gave up the roids and never played well again. His best years were early in his career when he was skinny. He was like Betts, in that he had freakish power for his size. Jeter said that Nomar's ground balls to short had the same type of top spin as the 200lbs+ clean-up hitters.

You know, she’s out in the middle of nowhere with some dude she barely knows. She looks around her, what does she see? Nothing but open ocean. “Oh, there’s nowhere for me to run, what am I gonna do, say no?”
+1
As others have mentioned the aggressive, bucket-list type itineraries and simple packaging is really compelling so I do get it, but for me personally, the drawbacks are huge:
1. The most important decisions I make on vacation (itinerary, food, people to be with) have been decided for me
2. Everything is covered in feces
