Nothing puzzling -- he just thinks he's so much better than everyone else that he doesn't need to train as hard and focused.

I'd guess he's not running a marathon because it'd be a bigger commitment and would take the place of race where he'll actually make money. He can do a quick buildup for this and be recovered in a couple days.
The fact that you follow people's practice workouts is alarming. How many of these practice posts have we seen leading into races that he completely bombed? There were a number of posts like this leading up to UTMB and we saw the end result. You ultra fan boys are a piece of work. You remind me of Eli Cash in the Royal Tenenbaums desperately seeking acceptance from the mainstream running community.

Ha, ha this is great.
Also if he fails he has the built in excuse that he didn't really train for it. He was just messin around.
Obviously the guy is a gifted runner, but screwing around doing the Grand Canyon run and junk that that is just a way out for when or if, things go badly in a serious race the OT race.
WTF is wrong with you posting that wall of text? Are you mentally ill?

And you're fan boy #1 of the ultra fan boys.
Are you people really that ignorant? That 44 mile run in the Canyon was a mere jog with a couple of swims thrown in. Hardly taxing in any way. Less than 4 mph compared to 12 to 14 mph he is running during workouts.

And you continually feel the urge to let us know how much Walmsley does wrong or even make a thread about it, a bit fan boyish, eh?

You forgot the race, but remember what he said. You sound like the one who is wasted.
They dope tested at WS that year. But did they dope test this year? Podium at utmb always gets a dope test.

That was disgraceful, but in fairness it was iRunfar who should have stopped that interview. It was very unprofessional of them to carry on and make it public.
Who hasn't made an ass of himself after he's had one too many?

Seeing the interview you are referring to and knowing Jim's history of getting in trouble with drinking, it made me wonder if he had a problem. But I agree that the interview should not have been done/aired.

I really believe irunfar does a lot of great work, but they seem a bit clicky with who they interview, publish about, or want to make statements about, and at that moment a year and half ago, Jim was hitting the nerve of a lot of old school ultra guys who were threatened by him. That since has been quieted. I bet he goes mid-high 1:02 for the Half. Tremendously gifted runner. He stays low key on social media which is pretty cool too.

Nobody felt threatened by Jim Walmsley.
irunfar is a weird publication. Some things are good on it but it feels very small minded. The lack of real professional writers is probably part of it. But who has professional writers these days?

Yep!!! We're all clamoring for more articles about ultrarunning by big minded professional writers. Maybe there are a few here hanging around the message boards.
Looks like Walmsley got another good workout in - I'm calling sub 1:04 rght now
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
