    You think he could’ve beaten Ritz in HS XC when both were in their prime? It would’ve been close, but I think Ritz could take him. Even if he couldn’t, I think Ritz has the superior HS XC resume, with his World Junior bronze. But Verzbicas has him beaten on the track easily (I really wish Ritz would’ve put more effort into the two mile senior year, but 13:44 isn’t chump change either).

    Agree with you that the doping and age cheat claims are unfounded and pointless to this argument. Without proof, accusations are pointless.


    I think Verzbicas could have gone toe to toe with Ritz

    LV's picture of him get out bed shortly after his accident
    I S the most inspiring impression from an endurance athlete's
    perspective. If I were a major magazine writer, I'd bang
    down his door/agent to get his view...Atlantic Magazine are you
    listening? Smithsonian?

    Hope he is well and keeping a positive mental attitude.

    One more: LV had best indoor track meet in history at 2011 NB Indoor Nationals: Friday night he wins 5,000 in national record 14:06; Sunday morning beats King Ches in 2 mile in 8:40.70, missing Lindgren's record by about half a second; and 90 minutes later, wins the mile in 4:10.

    what a treat that was, mate. Lukas was truly something special. I remember being in complete shock the weekend of that meet.

    I agree with the fans. I remember the indoor meet mentioned above. 3 events. There was an indoor second place to Lagat, I think. Everyone remembers the XC races the most, but those were against a shallower pool of competition than the occasional pro race. Here's what today's youth may not realize:

    Never joined his HS track team.
    Never ran in a State-sanctioned HS meet.
    Never ran a 1600 or 3200 that I'm aware of. (I followed him at the time and never heard about one, feel free to correct if you know of any.)
