Wow, these are not good. Was the goal to come up with something that would never be worn outside this race? Haven't followed hs xc in years, but the colors used to be real simple monocolors and look ok. At least west looks like something you could wear for a shamrock race, so there is that. The rest look like something you wouldn't see outside a color run.

So just clarifying — no official source to back up your original claim?
Congrats on the race though.
I guess technically I don’t have an official source. Next time I’ll walk around with a recording device at all times... But really though, the runners liked them.
My point is that I doubt you even heard from half the other kids. And even if you did, I’m guessing most were so excited to be there they would have loved the singlets no matter what they looked like.
This is going to sound condescending (because it is) but most teenagers* have no sense of style. You could have plastered The Mona Lisa on the singlet in neon orange and green and some of the kids would have loved it.
*as well as many adults

Okay I didn’t talk to every single runner, but I didn’t hear any negative things about the uniforms this past weekend. All I know is that I thought the uniforms were awesome (and very comfortable) and I plan on wearing it (especially the shorts) fairly frequently.
These are uniforms for high schoolers, targeted to high schoolers. No one cares what the old runners have to say, sit down.
Have you seen what kind short shorts prints these kids are running with nowdays?

100% this. As the saying goes, if its too loud maybe you're too old. I give NB kudos for not playing safe. Can't please everyone, see this board for evidence, so appeal to your target demographic and go all in. No accident they seem to use different strategies elsewhere.

Yeah actually they look pretty good. But then OP's wardrobe probably consists of a bunch of polos, khakis and a basic ass monotone dress shirt he wears to the bar every Saturday.

Did anyone else see the singlets they made those poor kids wear? Absolutely abusive. I’m shaking just writing this.
Yet every morning you dress like a dam fool .

Just because something is loud and colorful doesn’t make it “teenager approved.”
I don’t want NB to play it safe and boring. I’m all for bold designs, but this singlet looks like jarring, disjointed, modern art spinoff garbage.
I would say very rarely, if ever, can a piece of fine art be successfully adapted into a clothing design.

That was oddly specific. You okay?

Seriously, with all that’s going on in sport, uniform design? These are 1st world problems. It used to be just competing at an elite level was enough but no...now you need to have the “look / style”.
Grow up or grow some...geez!
Footlocker has a history of bad uniform design and it’s fair game to call them out on it.
These were atrocious.
Well...that's just like...your opinion...man. Whatever you say
End of thread. Next.

True. But teenagers saying they liked it does.
This is not at all true. Modern art and the fashion industry have a long and intertwined history and has inspired many iconic designs. So apparently this is a situation where we'll have to simply agree to disagree.
The purple and blue ones looked too similar. If you watch the race on youtube it looks like there are three teams - yellow, pink and blue.
The fact that this is the number one thread on this site three days after Footlocker is absolutely pathetic. Someone go sleuth out a marathon cheat or something. Jeez.

Of course. But one competitor saying that he and a handful of his fellow competitors liked the design doesn’t speak for teenagers at large. Besides, as I said before, the competitors were probably so stoked to be at nationals that they would have eaten up any design no matter what it looked like. They aren’t a good indicator.
You’re misinterpreting my statement. I’m not suggesting that the universal, underlying principles of design/fashion/art/visual aesthetics aren’t intertwined. I’m saying that it’s very difficult to take a SPECIFIC work of art and successfully implement that exact design/likeness into a piece of clothing (I’m sure there are a few exceptions out there). The singlet in question is a tacky rip-off of Piet Mondrian’s work.

There are much more than a few exceptions. In fact, there's a very good example that's very close to this discussion. In 1965, Yves Saint Laurent graced the cover of Vogue magazine with a dress inspired by...you guess it, Piet Mondrian. Here is an article on the fashion significance of that dress and its implications on the fashion world and a choice quote on the topic:
The significance of this piece is not only limited to Yves Saint Laurent’s own fashion legacy but also exemplified to the world the possibilities of collaborating fashion with fine art. This was one of the first collaborations in which a couture powerhouse seamlessly blended the lines between fashion and art and is to this day one of the most important breakthroughs in fashion, pioneering the way for future designers and artists.
https://www.bidsquare.com/blog/blending-the-lines-between-fashion-and-art-the-yves-saint-lauren-160The great thing about art and fashion is that they are completely subjective. You're entitled to like and not like whatever you want. Your feeling, however, in no way reflects how others may feel about the exact same thing. It's an interesting pop-culture inspiration that someone had a little fun with in a place you might not ordinarily expect it. I'd say it worked, because we're still talking about it.
You say there are many more than a few exceptions...then you go on to reference one exception (maybe three if you include YSL’s other collaborations).
While I agree that art and fashion are at least in part subjective, if you think a toddler’s finger painting is better than a Rembrandt, you probably have poor taste (as defined by society).
Just because we’re still talking about the singlet doesn’t mean it worked. First, I think we both just like to debate. Second, not all earned media is inherently good for a brand.
Come on, It's nationals.. you have to had run 15:30's or faster to make it there.
I don't know why your going off on the uniforms... They looked fine, yes they were a tad much, but that's not going to stop an athlete from wanting to qualify.
On a side note, it would be pretty sick if they let the athletes were half tights instead of the shorts... Some athletes may feel more comfortable in those if they've been racing in them all season like NXN does.
Other than that, FL nationals does a really nice job organizing/announcing/pro-athlete connection. NXN has meet and greets with athletes, but they don't have the same "coaches" FL has. It's a pretty cool thing in my opinion. The pros run with their athletes and is like their actual coach for three days.
