That means I can't see whether the authors are considering all the parallel industries that would have to emerge to support large-scale solar. Right now the grid seems able to manage its fluctuating output, but ramp up the numbers and the already-emerging battery storage industry will have to grow along with it. Besides its own carbon footprint, that industry involves a metals mining rush that could open a Pandora's box of new environmental degradation.
