Hi, I'm in the process of buying cold weather running clothes. I live in the south, so the coldest weather I will be running in is 30s-40s. I run at night so it will be colder. I honestly will not be running that much and think I can just buy a cotton or cotton/polyester blend hoodie. But I never see people running in hoodies anymore, all I see is people running in fancy Nike half zips and jackets that supposedly have a lot of "tech" like thermoregulation etc. Anyone here still just run in just plain hoodies???
Do people still run in hoodies or is that old fashion???

I have run in hoodies, but it's rare. I only run in a hoodie if it fits me well and not 2x the size of me.
I mostly run in running jackets or vests.
My running attire in 30s-40s:
Top:
Longsleeve t shirt
Running jacket or vest
Bottoms:
Medium thickness running tights or capris with running briefs
Only time I wear shorts in that weather is if I'm competing... and even then, I might choose pants. -
Hard to beat a hooded sweatshirt, Sporthill-like pants, a cap if needed, and sensible gloves (such as $6 ones you can find at Home Depot, rather than 'running' gloves), for general purpose cool to cold day use.

I'll do a warm up in a hoodie if its in the 20s or 30s.

I’m in the northeast and a cotton hoodie is always my last layer in the winter unless it’s raining hard/cold enough to warrant a rain jacket

Yeah brah, I run in a hoodie and NOTHING else. That's right, naked from the waist down. Good times, brah, good times.

only when running from the pigs

no self respecting athlete wears cotton during a workout

Oh, yes. Working class Italian-American small-time fighters almost always run in hoodies. Especially when they are training to take in the heavyweight champion of the world.

I used to run in hoodies, but the cops kept stopping and harassing me, so I ditched them.

30s-40s is usually just a long sleeve tech shirt for me, maybe add a vest of a wind/water resistant (not proof) material if it's particularly windy/wet
I find hoodies super annoying, either the hood flopping around if you're not wearing it, or the weird nosies of it brushing against your ears if it's on. -
uh yeah, but in the 30s or 40s you shouldn't need one in my experience. but yes, no one will judge you if you wear a hoodie

I realize that this is a two-year old resurrected thread, but I thought I would add that my favorite item of cold weather running outerwear is a performance fabric hoodie that looks like a traditional cotton one.

Never liked running in hoods much because of how it hurts peripheral vision.

Saw a dude running in a hoodie the other day and thought it looked kinda cool.

I wear a thinner hoodie sometimes. I do not really care what everyone else is wearing. I wear what I like and not something just because others are wearing it. The only issue with a large hoodie is if you are trying to run fast it is not real aero dunamic! Other wise wear what you want and what makes you warm! I am not really a big fan of Dr-Fit stuff. Seems like that material just sticks to you when you sweat. Might be cooler but I actually like cotton t-shirts more than Dri Fit ones. To each their own.

It depends if the lights behind you are oscillating in blue and red or not.
