I agree with Ryun on talent. Don't see too many guys capable of running 36.4 last 300's (in a 3:37 race) on dirt tracks these days. His last 1200 in his WR 1500 was in 2:46.6, on dirt in 97 degree L.A. smog, comparable to what the best hit today. Again, on dirt. Never reached his potential. The altitude games in '68 and the fall in Munich have never allowed him to enjoy the legacy he should have.
Morceli at the top of his game must also be considered. 7 years as #1 says a lot.
Coe's two 1500 golds speak for themselves - although if Cram hadn't been injured in '84, I think he would have run away from Seb over the last 200.
