Violent crime is much less now than in the 70s, 80s, and 90s (steadily declining since). Still not great numbers, but it's safer now than at any time in the recent past (recent uptick aside). Your characterization of the US as a dangerous war zone (and there being a palpable difference the US and Canada or Europe) and that Americans don't realize the world out there is laughable, hoser.
