Doesn’t do much for the sport when you do this type of thing . Happens time and time again ! Pretty poor
I guess Lilli Birdon is still sunbathing on a beach in New Zealand which is repetitively pulls off very nicely thank you !
Also, mate, don't major in geography. It's Winter in New Zealand right now and frickin' cold.
Does the NCAA have an honest effort rule for xc? Because in track, they do. If you post on the official team twitter that your entire team isnt going to be making an honest effort, it seems to me that it should result in DQs and that meet shouldnt count for your team.
How cold is It Kangaroo breath ? 80 in the winter . That is warm where I come from

New Zealand is a bit further south than Australia. It does get pretty cold there in the winter especially on the South (colder) Island. 80 in the winter? Not even close. Even in the summer (Dec, Jan, Feb) the average high temps in major cities don't hit 80. Oh, and NZ is not known for Kangaroos.
Brought to you by the country that produced the first man to break 3:50 in the mile and the first two men, Hillary (NZ) & Norgay (Nepal) to summit Mt. Everest.
How would other teams feel to know they traveled all this way to Seattle and end up only getting to race your "B" team or maybe even your "C" team. I would be upset to say the least.
As someone who asked earlier, where is Brenna Peloquin?
Here's another link to the results from athletics.net

yeah i doubt we see Boise State at Sundodger again anytime soon, they came to race
why would teams fly all that way to do a workout?
Hope it’s not a year full of excuses at U of Wash . Not a very impressive showing on any level .
The UW dropped the open races as well. Not exactly last minute, but not early enough for the D2 and D3 schools to come up with replacement events. The HS races was dropped as well.
My understanding was that the D2/D3 and high school races were dropped by the Powells just for this year, since they are a completely new staff, which I understand as I'm sure their concern in July and August was getting a staff hired, finding a place to live in Seattle, and contacting athletes inherited from the Greg Metcalf regime.
I feel bad for Rainsberger and Burdon going from an Oregon team who will be top 2 this years at NCAA Cross to a Washington team that got beat Oregon State I mean LOL I didn't even know Oregon State even had a Cross Country team :) Now that Oregon has good coaches who develop talent it's going to be fun watching Cross Country again :) GO DUCKS
I really, really, really think Maurica Powell knows what she is doing.
So some are disgusted that her ladies ran a controlled workout. Bad for the sport, and all that. Yep, it sure would have been exciting as a fan to see WA women treat this race like it was the NCAA finals, but it's only early September.
The program's main goal is focused upon the NCAAs, not this early season jogfest. Making "the best long term decisions for the season", as Coach Powell put it, means that, after seeing Sundodger results, Letsrun's genius couch coaches - the same minds who are peeved that Centro doesn't go for a PR every single race -- have once again acted upon their impulses to put feet in mouths.
I really, really, really think Maurica Powell knows what she is doing.
How do you know she REALLy, REALLY knows what she is doing?
She worked with the best recruits in the country at Stanford, some good results obviously (don't screw em up and you look good), some not so good results.
Like someone said earlier, does running three or four pretty hard races over three months have a negative impact?
I wouldn't feel bad for them. They'll have a degree from Washington which is much better than a 2nd place team finish at NCAAs.

It's also much better than having a Duck degree.
Brenna Peloquin no longer runs on the team. She quit to get healthy according to what it looks like on Facebook.
Why can't XC do what college football does? If you want an easy meet: schedule a cupcake competition in your first meet and save racing for later in the season, if you want to give more attention to the sport and motivate your kids to train during the summer, have a tougher opener. Having kids run as a workout and lose is tough to sell the sport. If you go easy and win, you are just following footballs scheduling rules.
Football week #1
UGA vs. Austin Peay (a win but no TV)
Auburn vs. Washington (national TV, but chance at playoffs reduced)
Point #2, if you don't think competition affects sports, look at how the NBA is dealing with tanking for draft picks, and star players resting in the middle of the season. These are big financial impacts to the sport, and a big concern for tickets/TV etc. If XC/Track want to think about having only 1 meet matter (like Baseball - World Series), fine, but not my cup of tea.
Well, if you run conference, regionals and nationals, that would be 3 hard races in one month. So, yes it would have an impact.

It was a workout. From the official meet preview on their website: “Saturday will be a ‘workout-type effort in a fun setting,’ according to Director of Track & Field Maurica Powell. ‘We have only had a few days with the student-athletes, so who runs on Saturday will be based on the best long term decisions for the season. The plan is to run in groups at a determined pace."
lame
no wonder no one pays attention to this sport.
As if every football team doesn't effectively do this when they are playing some scrub team.

horrible comparison. this would be like if the Alabama football team put in their scrubs.....and got blown out.
