Glad to see the site receive the cesspool distinction it deserves. This message board is 75% trolling idiotic responses by juvenile young men, thanks exclusively to the anonymity afforded by a lack of user profiles. The site owners know this is true and yet do not implement a login system because 1. they don't make investments in site infrastructure and 2. they know it'll cut down on ad revenue accrued by page views.
O wise one, kindly predict for me what difference a "login system" and "user profiles" would make? Also, if you wouldn't mind, what is "user profiles" and how would they be determined and implemented?, and what kind of "login system" would like?
Thanking you in anticipation.
I apologize if I came off as smug. Most message boards have an authenticated login. As in you create a profile and need an email or phone number to authenticate it. The profile setup itself cuts down on ad spammers, hackers and trolls. Now someone can have an anonymous user name like mypredictor of course, but research shows the simple fact that they added their contact info cuts down on trolling significantly. But let's take it one step further: there's a guy on LR who uses his real name - joe garland I think it is. He reponds to any threads using his real name. Now what are the chances he'll troll anyone or be funny at someone's expense? Probably one percent. The site owners know this but also know the humor and trolling are indirectly a major part of their revenue. And so they own the ugly side of these boards as much as the trolls themselves.
