I hope you are just joking and do know that the quads do in fact contribute a large amount to the DL.

I think he’s gonna do great with a time of around 4 hrs. What a challenge, way to push yourself duder!
I thought runners were supposed to be so happy and positive with all those endorphins. MAYBE YOU SHOULD HUSTLE AS HARD AS YOU HATE.

Also I see his clean PR but where is his DL? He’s cleaning over 300lb. I would expect his DL to be around 500.
Alan
He has video of himself with a 495 dl and says it is his PR. That is what prompted me to say he must be more distance runner than powerlifter, because that is a pretty low dl for the amount of mass he has built in his thighs. I was smaller when I was a sprinter and my dl was slightly higher, and I'm definitely more distance runner than sprinter, I just enjoyed the sprint training after college.
Also, I never said quads, I said thighs. Thighs include hamstrings. Regardless, quads "are" a major contributer to the dl, although the hamstring and glute usually contribute more.
I take your point that his quads may actually be massive from an excessive us of the rowing machine.
All I’m saying is that when most comment about a person’s thighs they are typically referring to their quads. And when someone is referring to a person’s quad development it’s usually in reference to the back squat. Yes sure there is quads involved in the deadlift, especially sumo, but the DL is also much more referred to as a lower back/hamstring movement as apposed to “look at that dudes thighs!! He must deadlift a lot”
Alan
No one should attempt complete sentences at 0500 lol.
Dude has big thighs. Probably due to lots of lifting and the rower. In fact probably “overdeveloped” from the rower.....and genetics.
The deadlift involves the quads, but is not a “quad dominated” movement....generally.
His clean and deadlift PRs are in line with each other. I’m not sure what he Squats, but given those quads I would imagine his Squat is likely closer to his DL than one would expect normally.

First of all, the prize for guessing the closest time sucks. I want something I can use, not stupid Crossfit sessions with a bunch ignorant Crossfit bros.
Second, how many times do we have to prove that doing a marathon is very hard without marathon specific training? I guess there are enough idiots out there to eat this stuff up, so people keep doing it.
I worry that there will be "secret training miles" or that he fashions the WOD for his "BOX" to have more than the usual amount of running in it. Just 10 mpw would make a pretty big difference and shift what would be primarily a walk to primarily a jog.
The Oprah line is 4:29:20. To be honest I don't think he can come in under if he truly does no running before the race. I predict 4:32:30.
The standard time for first time marathoners that do the minimum training,-4:30ish.

Then what does?

I have never heard of the "Oprah line"...love it! Reminds me of the Mendoza line in baseball.

That's a pretty good DL PR for the real world, but it's a terribly weak internet PR.
You all realize CF workouts do include some running? Usually 400-800m sprints. Also many CF workouts involve the rower. I believe he will have an above average general aerobic base just by doing endurance heavy CF workouts and rowing. But it’s the pounding of the marathon that will do him in. But he’s also pretty lean and not Oprah runner fat.
I predict sub 4 hours. 9min avg.
Alan
If he tapers right he'll be fine. Not fast , but will finish not completely devastated. If he doesn't rest before the race he will bonk hugely.

Nah, he's obviously taking his 7 weeks to not do any preparation.

I wasted my first London place. By the time I got an entry, I'd lost interest in running and had other stuff going on in my life.
Consequently I did about 70miles total running from Jan-Apr ... the last two months were essentially a 10-mile run, a 1/2M (1hr50ish) five weeks before, a 9-mile run three weeks before.
BUT I was doing circuit training 2-3 times per week. It's not quite Crossfit but we used to do about 1-2miles of sprints per session.
Come marathon day, I managed to run to 20-21 miles in 3hrs and then I walk-jogged to come in at 4hr25ish.
I'd say how fast this guy mostly comes down to his slow-twitch / fast-twitch distribution. I'm mostly fast-twitch and always sucked at any type of endurance activity.
He did the marathon, according to his Instagram! Anyone want to find his time?
4:08 broooo.
I agree with the others: he won't pace properly, so go out way too fast and bonk after mile 15-16. He might finish, but only with lots of walking. At the finish, he'll say something like "I didn't think it would be this hard!"
Why are crossfitters obsessed with the marathon? How many marathoners post on IG or twitter that they are going to do a crossfit workout with no specific training? NONE. That is because marathoners understand that there are difference athletic disciplines that require training specificity. One is not better than any other. They are just different.
