Wrong, Lyles has has always been a great 100/200 sprinter since high school. In HS he ran a 10.14 100m and he is the 2016 100m world junior champion.

This is just tooo biased, Noah lyles main event is the 200 not 100. He’s been doing the 100 to complement his start for the 200. Maybe 6/7 times out of 10 Coleman will beat Noah in the 100, but 10/10 lyles beats Coleman in the 200.

The 100 matters way more than the 200. Bolt was better at the 200 but he didn’t even try to run it in 2017. “Fastest man in the world” or “200m world champion”.

Exactly. This guy talks more about the 100m than the 200m, and he was quoted saying that he is going to go after 9.40
Also, everybody hyped up their showdown, and people were spouting off saying that Lyles was better. Now all of a sudden he just runs 100m to complement his 200m, and that 100m isn't his main event.
He didn't say he was going to go after 9.57 or 9.56. He didn't even say he was going to go after 9.50.....He said 9.40, about 2 tenths of a second faster than the world record!
He is hyping up his 100m, as well as the media. So the criticism is beyond fair.

Dude, every thread you start is complete horse sh!t - you're probably the biggest troll on here. So you don't like Lyles because he has personality? Got it. Yet you constantly bash a runner like Galen Rupp who just goes out and does his job and doesn't show much personality at all? SO WHICH IS IT?
And BTW Lyle is exactly what the sport needs - a MARKETABLE personality with LOADS of potential who can attract the casual sports fan....

Lyles probably will end up faster than Coleman over the 100.
Not sure about 9.40.
Coleman is legit and he has a lot left to work on. He burns out his turnover right out of the blocks and with a more patient approach to the first 40 meters, he'll be back to the low 9.8s and 9.7s. He is capable of running 9.6 at some point.
However, I'll always more impressed by Noah. Firstly, Coleman has the 60m world record which gives him the edge in the 100, but don't forget that Noah has the indoor 300m world record. They're both world record holders, but Noah has the more impressive range. He could be a 43 second 400 runner if he wanted. He is the best 200m runner since Bolt (even though Gatlin and Blake - cheats - have run faster).
The fact that he keeps running under 10 seconds is very impressive. His talk of running 9.4 is bold, but y'all hate too much. I feel like doping has made it so that people can't appreciate how special running 9 seconds in the 100 is, but make no mistake - Noah is the better runner, given that he can pull off sub-10 regardless of how terrible his start is. And the fact that his start is so inferior to the rest of the world's best means he only has room to get better.

This is why I think he will end up faster than Coleman.
He's rough in the 100, there's a lot of work to be done and he's still run 9.88 or so. Coleman has less room to improve in my opinion.
They will end up being very close over 100m but I can see both running in the 9.6 range, Lyles will be the better all round sprinter.

I don't care what these guys do as long as they can back it up.
Lyles was pretty much a 200m guy prior to this season, so for him to have done what's he's doing in his first serious 100m serious is pretty impressive.
Keep in mind he should be a college kid, he's young and it does show.
Coleman is a sub 19.90 200m guy why he isn't there working on that speed endurance(which he needs)...???

Wrong.
Lyles holds the HS 200m record and that is the event he contested at our Nationals..........why?
I made it clear he ran other events but his main event was the 200m.
See, this is what I'm saying. You guys hate on coleman to put Lyles on a pedestal, and all Coleman has done is beat Lyles. And don't Forget Coleman is just as young Lyles. And as long as Coleman is healthy he will continue to destroy Lyles at 100 meters.
Also, I still haven't given on Trayvon, who is the greatest young sprinter off all time and more talented than the both of them. If that achilles injury didn't happen he would be destroying everyone in site.
Yes. ANY sub-10 is insanely imptrssive.
This year, Coleman is only 0.01 faster than Lyles once wind effects are factored, 9.92 to 9.93. This was Coleman’s 9.92, his SB, while Lyles was not at his SB.
Coleman’s form at speed is crap, but he has shown no improvement. His speed development is amazing, but it won’t get any better than his WR performance. If Coleman stays as clean as he currently is, he will never improve his current 100m PB, IMO—which is not a huge PB in basic terms, and which Lyles will exceed with only a bit of work on his start.
Coleman a bit faster right now, but Lyles will surpass him if he cares, and applies himself. Also Coleman is MUCH more likely to get injured and compete injured, especially his achilles IMO.
9.4 is just a young guy talking jack, it’s a good sign. Anybody rubbed the wrong way by a young guy talking like that needs to get a life. It’s called the dreams of youth

Trayvon's sprinting mechanics were soooooooo perfect. :(
Hope he makes it back.
Yes Bromell was beautiful, had a complete race. But injury is the inevitability for a clean 100m athlte who actually accelerates like a Bromell (or a Coleman, for that matter).
I unfortunately do not hold out hope for Bromell, achilles takes a while to figure out, and a lot of training is lost during that time.
But his total race is one of my favorites of all time.
Hey, I don't hate lyles. I just hate his antics, and all the silly stuff that he does, as well as track and field giving him more attention than Christian Coleman. They are basically trying to make him the next big thing.
And he is very, very cocky. I like confident runners, but saying you are going to run 9.40 for 100m is just absurd. Just let your running. Sprinting does not need that crap. It sells itself because people love speed.
do the talking.[/quote]
WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE ANYONE WITH A PERSONALITY IN THIS SPORT???? HE IS A FUN ND ENERGETIC KID! HE IS LITERALLY 20 YEARS OLD AND YOU ARE SH!TTING ON HIM FOR BEING CONFIDENT AFTER HE HAS DOMINATED THE WORLD CICUIT

Exactly. Some people seem to have either forgotten, or never felt, the unlimited exuberance of youth, when you felt that the world was your oyster.
I agree that Lyles is a long sprinter, but still world class at 100m. He is the best at 200m, but I can see him moving up to the 400m and running 43's. He'll smoke Coleman at 200 every time.
Lyles has incredible top speed and the ability to hold it. That's what set Bolt apart from the field and what will let Lyles pull away from the rest.
Coleman has amazing acceleration but in the 100m you need to be able to keep pulling away after 60m.
Lyles can do that.
Prescod and Huges of GB can also do that.
Lyles is Lewis 2.0
Same 100 and 200 times (Lewis would have been 19.65 easily in his windmilled 19.75).
Same race models. Same “start”.
He will perform well at majors, as his style will survive rounds well. While he may get beaten by pure 100m guys in a 1-off, I think he will have a brilliant career as long as other athletes are remotely clean.
